DVD Description

Kingdom is Stephen Fry’s first drama series since Jeeves and Wooster ten years ago. Filmed in Norfolk, the series (appearing on ITV in April 2007) follows Peter's life in Market Shipborough as he takes on the responsibility for everyone's welfare. Stephen plays country solicitor Peter Kingdom, whose compassion and humility has won him huge respect in the picture postcard town of Market Shipborough.

But there's a secret sadness for the popular lawyer. His brother, and business partner, Simon, has died but his body has never been found. Peter constantly searches for clues to the mystery surrounding Simon's death.

Hermione Norris stars as Peter's troubled and lustful younger sister Beatrice, who wreaks havoc when she comes to live with him after being released from a rehabilitation clinic. Celia Imrie is Gloria Millington, the faithful receptionist and confidante, Phyllida Law plays Peter's dotty Aunt Auriel, and Karl Davies is the sharp young trainee solicitor, Lyle Anderson, who dreams of escaping the sleepy backwater to work in the metropolis. Tony Slattery blusters through as the cantankerous villager Mr Snell, who's always seeking litigation.

The DVD includes all six episodes in series 1.

Just proves once again that you guys in the UK win hands down when it comes to excellence in television! This is a wonderful series that has just enough comedy, intrigue, and emotion to be loved by all the age groups in my household. We are really looking forward to series 2! I am recommending this series (and region free dvd players) to all of my friends here in Chattanooga, Tennessee!

American Reliant On British Humor And Wit

I need Series Two. Please Amazon.co.uk, pass the word--the demand--to whomever releases this DVD. I rely on British drama and comedy to tickle my wickle. I've purchased many programs, and I suffer the wait for those Complete Series. For example: Absolute Power Series 2; Kingdom Series 2; Lead Balloon Series 2; Annually Retentive Series 2. The list continues. These are potential sales and big bucks considering for me the U.S. Dollar is half the British Pound's value. Help me. Our programming doesn't equal yours. Britain is far superior in humor, wit, dialogue, vocabulary, and generally thinking before speaking.

Great series... No DVD for series 2?

Like most people with whom I have discussed the series, I happen to love "Kingdom". I like most of the books, TV-series and films starring or featuring the inimitable Stephen Fry, and "Kingdom" is certainly no exception. However, I do wish they would give the second series a proper, general DVD release. I read somewhere that ITV has announced that they won't be releasing the second series other than as a newspaper supplement - can anyone confirm, or hopefully deny, this rumour?

Longing for Series 2

When can we expect Series 2?
This is quite brilliant. Wry humour, all kinds of people with their idiosyncrasies, and the whole set in the most beautifully filmed coastal landscape.
Let's have more of it!

What a refreshing change this series is. Quality drama, a superb cast, Stephen Fry as the solicitor with a conscience and compassion, hermione norris excels as Beatrice Peter`s tormented and utterly self centred sisiter whom one should hate but cant help feeling sorry for. Karl davis as trainee solicitor Lyle is brilliant there is such a rapport between him and Fry. Celia Imrie marvellous as Gloria the firms secretary who is a greiving widow with a troubled son. Tony Slattery is so funny as the tiresome Mr.Snell always wanting to sue the council and making Gloria reach for the air freshner. The series is set in Market shipborough on the Norfolk coast, the scenery is absolutely lovely. The stories contain humanity and subtle humour. A pleasure to watch, do buy this dvd if you want a change from all the violence and cynicisim on tv .
