This 1979 mini-series (originally shown in two parts) is based on the book by Sidney Sheldon and has been brought up-to-date by a wonderfully clean transfer to DVD. It has many features like a choice of expertly dubbed French, German, Italian and Spanish languages and a choice of subtitles in 10 languages plus English subtitles for the hearing impaired.
What about the film itself?
The script is well written and the plot is guaranteed to keep you guessing. It is directed by Terence Young (director of the first James Bond film 'Dr. No' plus two other classic 007 films, 'From Russia With Love' and 'Thunderball'). It has a stella cast and is expertly acted. There are some nice locations, nail bitting moments, some adult themes and a musical score by Ennio Morricone (that definately went on to influence his scoring of Once Upon a Time in America). The film runs for approximately 112 entertaining minutes and for the price on offer from Amazon.co.uk could you really want anymore? With reference to the previous comment - yes I understand that bonus features like the original trailer should have been included; if it was on the previous VHS version but in defence of Paramount Home Entertainment perhaps the disk was too full because of the number of languages/subtitles included on it. In general I think the opportunity of seeing it on DVD in comparison to VHS wins over this oversight and in my view I feel not having more bonus features on the disk should not detract you from purchasing this movie.
