The quality of the transfer is reasonable and does not detract from the pleasure of watching this first series, which we had never seen before.
First series are usually weaker as characters are "bedded" down, but this is straight up and running and is more like a second or third series where all the characters and characterisations are known - it's excellent!
Bring on the next series'.

I loved this programme when it was on, i was so glad Sheila and Jonathan got together in the end of the series altogether They are perfect surgeon and anaethestist poor jonathan always seems to be on the rough side of Sheila but you can clearly see she likes him and he her.
the other characters are great and help to make the programme also
full marks for this coming out on DVD and wonder when series 2 will be out

Surgical Spirit is a much under-rated series and it's been a long time coming in any published form. While the recording is not top quality that does not detract from the enjoyment of seeing the series again; the original was never high budget production. The caustic humour may be lost on some but it's a breath of fresh air to see it all again. Having waited so long for I eagerly await the release of subsequent series.This may be a low budget release, but it does not detract from the munour and enjoyment. Buy and enjoy.

Imagine my joy to find this gem finally released on DVD - YES!!
Imagine my horror to find the transfer to DVD looks as though it has been done by an ametur who did not have a clue! The lip sync is totally out - if you do not watch the picture i suppose it is ok but otherwise this is terrible. It looks as though they have used the original transmission tapes - which are horribly grainy - and left the commercial break logo in the middle of each episode!

Result 3 stars only - shame really - i hope Season 2 is better.
