I missed this when it was on TV and discovered this ( and 30 Rock !!!) on DVD release and am just so glad.
The cast are all great but Patrick Neil Harris as Barney Stinson has created one of the most brilliant comic characters to grace the TV for many years and though ostensibly not the central character, really makes every episode more vibrant.
This is intelligent, quirky, and actually very funny.

This is just one of them storys that you can see happening to you, the hopeless romantic trying to woo the independant woman. its a clasic story of one of them moments you dread, making a fool of yourself infront of someone you love then having to build that relationship again. the first episode i saw was "the slutty pumpkin," just the title alone intregued me becasue its not really a normal title is it? personaly i think this has more character then friends, but barney is definately the joey of the group. this rekindles my love for american sitcoms

I only recently became exposed to this sitcom, largely as a consequence of enjoying Neil Patrick Harris' performance in 'Doctor Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog' and looking for some of his other work. It starts off fairly slow, but it doesn't take long before it becomes Excellent Television. The central premise is fairly similar to that of Friends, but it largely dispenses with the more mainstream kitsch sentimentality in favour of a darker comedy. Essentially, it's Friends with an Edge, and well worth giving some serious attention.

Your Mother is an incredibly funny TV series that developed a level of cult appeal due to its lack of exposure on TV. Stars Alison Hannigan from Buffy and American Pie. How I Met Your Mother is well worth a look.

A Legendary Show... or it should be

As many people have said this show was cursed in this country by an abismal timeslot. It well diserved a Primetime slot, with a reapeat in where it was uncerimoniously dumped. This show is huge in America, but here no one's heard of it. This show consistantly has made me laugh out loud, so much so that my housemates come in to ask me what's so funny.

The comparison to Friend's is obvious, but if you go deeper than a vauge hand wavey premis, you can see the shows are quite different. This show was made 10 years later than Friends. This means slightly more risque storylines, not so much as to be crass but only to make them truely laugh out loud funny. The way the story is told is also completely different, telling them out of order in flashbacks and fast forwards which only drives them more and leaves you craving for the next bit to piece together the puzzle. The grand arc of the show is driven by the question 'who is the mother' with tantalising hints being dropped all the time (I've seen seasons 2 and 3 as well.) and the more they give you the more you want to know. But at it's very core are a set of great characters who you love and laugh at with equal measure.

I think I've made it clear that I LOVE THIS SHOW. Great plots and characters told in magnificent style. Well worth it.
