I was so shocked when i heard this!!!
Review date: 2008-06-07 Rating: 10 out of 10

I borrowed this of one of my friends and it blew me away everything about this album is amzing Dio's vocals Iommis guitar playing, the drumming, the very clear bass & the lyrics. The Best song has to be Neon Knights thats just mindblowing the solo is fantastic. it has a few different songs from dio's albums when he was with and a good selection though the thing i would change is instead of After all(the dead) they should of put Master Of Insanity that would of been cool. This highly recommended to anyone this is mindblowing. Real Music. BLACK SABBATH ROCK BUY THIS ALBUM!!!!!

Best Sabbath, best Dio
Review date: 2007-11-23 Rating: 10 out of 10

I have not bought this album yet - but I intend to just for the new bonus tracks that don't appear on the other 3 (studio) albums from the Dio era. However, as I know most of the tracks I can only recommend it as a worthy purchase. I have just seen the last night of the H&H tour in Bournemouth and it was one of the best concerts I have ever seen (and that goes as far as Rammstein shows!).
Dio is still the best singer 30-40 years on from Elf (he's 65, for goodness sake!) and a totally good fella. Ozzy has received a lot of 'sympathetic' exposure in recent years as a burnt out rocker but apart from a few obvious classics I have to say that in terms of musical proficiency, Sab's best songs were done with Dio. For that matter (yes, I know - Holy Diver, Rainbow Rising etc etc!), some of Dio's best work was done with BS.
'Geezer and the 3 wops' (Ozzy's description, not mine) was one of the best bands ever to produce some fantastic heavy rock.

The heavenly years
Review date: 2007-10-08 Rating: 10 out of 10

This compilation is a great list of songs from the period that RJD was singing in black sabbath and it really shows how great his stint was with them producing classics like heaven and hell, the mob rules, neon knights,The children of the sea and the almighty die young. And the new songs are brilliant and shows that black sabbath are a world class band no matter the vocalist. This compilation is brillian and i certainly recommend you buy it as you wont regret it. Now i just cant wait for to see them in november cause itll be out of this world

Where's Geezer Gone?
Review date: 2007-06-20 Rating: 8 out of 10

Nice compilation but a word about sound quality.

This latest remaster has brought out the low frequencies much more but conversely this just means more kick drums which masks some of the bass guitar. Geezer was at his finest on 'Heaven Hell' and 'Mob Rules' - melodic, fluid, fast and rhythmic. What a shame to downplay that on this remaster.

The new tracks are growers - epecially 'The Devil Cried' - it would have been nice to have a whole new album but I'm just grateful this incarnation of Sabbath are back for a tour under a new name.

Ronnie James Dios voice sounds very slightly brittle on the new ones. It's a subtle thing but you notice after hearing the earlier tracks where the guy just had enourmous power. It's no suprise given Dios age and he can still blows most guys half his age away.

In conclusion if you love this line up - buy this album for the three new tracks. If this line up is new to you, then start with the remasted 'Heaven and Hell' which IMO is better sound quality.

Energetic, Strong and Fast
Review date: 2007-06-20 Rating: 10 out of 10

Though it's Ozzy you usually associate with the voice of Black Sabbath, Ronnie James Dio has had a huge impact on getting Black Sabbath back on track when they were in dire need of a lead singer. And man oh man what an impact this has been! You can see it clearly on this CD that will blow your mind away with its unquestionable strenght and energy. It just ROCKS!

When it comes to voice, Dio betters Ozzy in style - a thing he clearly shows on this CD. Even the slower tracks (mostly characteristic for the original Sabbath) like Lonely Is The Word, Falling Off The Edge Of The World sound more... natural and honest, I guess. Plus, they have so much feel and power in them. And muscle as well as sheer speed are two things that the Dio years of Sabbath excelled in. Neon Knights, The Mob Rules, TV Crimes, Ear In The Wall etc. You name it. This CD clearly is a great addition to the Sabbath compilations' catalogue. Go on and get it. You won't be disappointed.
