Cool Movie That Gives A More Human Element To The Predators
Review date: 2008-06-18 Rating: 10 out of 10

Before this film even existed I was never familiar that there was a whole universe of Alien vs Predator type stuff like comics, games etc so I was quite shocked that they made this movie and felt it would simply be another vs movie much like Freddy vs Jason. In a way it became what I expected it to be but with a little more on top, it was disappointing yet enjoyable at the same time. The major tag line for the movie was "Whoever wins, We lose" which when you watch this film you come to learn that actually that's not strictly true. The story is about a team of Archeologists who discover that there may be an ancient Aztec temple 2,000 feet under the Antarctic ice and they want to go on an expedition to explore this temple, however they find themselves in the middle of an even greater problem, a war between Alien species.

This wasn't a reflection of what you would expect from a typical Alien or Predator movie as there is very little blood and guts and little genuine horror. We are given, however, a more human look at the Predators as we come to learn that them being on our planet is simply a hunt and they don't injure or maim those who are un-armed. To those familiar with the comics or graphic novels of the AVP series this may be a regular thing to see but to those who are just familiar with both sets of movies, this is a surprising dimension to be given to the Predators.

Paul W.S. Anderson received a lot of criticism for this movie and to some it may be rightly so but to me I feel it's unfounded as I saw this to be a very good and entertaining movie that most everyone should own.

a good movie just need a little helping hand

this is a really good movie. well about what the other said about the HD transfer. it is good but not great. this is what i did for you to get the good resort. you will need to adjust your TV contrast to full and the brightness and had a little bit of more colour. that should do the trick

Not talking too much about the movie

I'm not going to talk that much about the movie because I loved it, as I am a fan of all things that contain Giger's Alien, so... 5 stars to the movie.
The 3 start are because I saw the trailer from the online PS3 store and I thought to myself: I need to have this movie in Blu-Ray format (I already have the regular DVD).
I was disappointed to notice that the quality isn't THAT good or THAT different from the DVD format. True, I have a DVD with upscaling, so all the DVD's look good to me, but I noticed that the Blu-Ray movie would sometimes be filled with "noise", specially in the darker scenes, when it should be flawless.
So, if you have a DVD reader that can do upscaling, just stick to the regular DVD's for now. Blu-ray format is only worth if the movie was already made to support high definition.

Well...it's a blockbuster.

I agree with the last review when it says that this one has ruined any chance for a darker comeback of Giger's little pet, and it is a shame, indeed it is. I would very much thrive on a Sir Ridley Scott/ James Cameron movie about origins. Oh, yes I would...

About this movie, even though you don't get the darker side, you get a very enjoyable movie to watch, if you pre-conceive that this has nothing to do with the original franchising. It's well written, it has a nice cast, and it's visually nice. I have to add that this story doesn't corrupt the original storyline, and it's congruent to think that an alien species that hunts through this galaxy as a way of living would know about such a feared species as the Alien. So, as a crossover it isn't the worst you could get.

The film that ruined a franchise
Review date: 2008-01-17 Rating: 2 out of 10

Granted, Alien resurrection probably killed the Alien franchise, this film manages to go one step further by destroying two of the greatest movie monsters ever made, why film makers think that dumb slasher monster flicks with no depth and characters who no-one cares about are the way forward is beyond me, Alien was like an opera in space, the loneliness and the fact that what you didn't see was more terrifying, Aliens was the way to create a sequel it never tried to better alien just gave the story a different spin, Predator 1 was just an all out action fun film to watch with good characters. I read a column in the newspaper interviewing Ridley Scott asking him whether he would return to the alien franchise, he said he was in talks with james cameron about possibly writing a script for a 5th alien film going back to where the creatures came from, unfortunately Ridley said that due to the AVP movie releases he has had no plans to carry on with the said script for alien as he didn't think that the new movies were going the same way his idea was. Shame on everyone who created this crud film you should all be thoroughly ashamed of yourselves!!!!!!!
