Damn Cool Movie
Review date: 2008-04-13 Rating: 10 out of 10

Although a lot of critics will smash this movie claiming things such as, it raises more questions than it answers and the characters weren't kept true to the original comics. With these criticisms this is simply a film that has to be taken lightly by all, including the dedicated comic book fans. The story is presented easily to the viewers, some true X-Men comic fans will know of the Phoenix saga already, but to those who haven't read the comics, the whole notion of the Phoenix is explained and made quite simple to follow.
A "cure" has been found to destroy the mutant gene and it throws the mutant world into turmoil as they are split between those who welcome the cure and those who find it as an insult. Jean Gray is found alive after the events of X2 but it has released in her the second personality to Jean which calls itself the Phoenix. The personality of Phoenix is the uncontrollable side of Jean and due to the power she inadvertently kills her boyfriend Scott Summers. Magneto gets wind of the Phoenix being released from the mental blocks and proceeds in recruiting her to his army rebelling against the government cure.
We are introduced to a whole new band of mutants in this film, along with the progression of some of our favourite mutants from the previous films. Shawn Ashmore (Iceman) is given the most glory in this film as we see him really reach the pinacle of his power. With Jean Gray back we come to see a bigger development in the relationship between her and Wolverine, as he struggles with the possibility that she may be lost forever but not giving up hope that he may be able to get her back. Kelsey Grammar joins us in this film as Dr. Hank McCoy (Beast) who, for those who don't know is the secretary of Mutant Affairs. He brings a welcomed intelligence and eloquence to what would otherwise be a typical comic book action movie. He doesn't just play the politician however as we do get the opportunity to see the man in action fighting on the front line.

This was a surprisingly good flick that was taken to the next level brilliantly. There were parts when I thought it was a bit much, the moving of the golden gate bridge for a start I thought was way too much but it was all justified in the context of the film. The introduction of new mutants in the film was brilliant and I thought the casting was superb. Vinnie Jones (Juggernaut), Kelsey Grammar (Beast), Ben Foster (Angel) & Dania Ramirez (Callisto) were all great additions to this movie although I would have loved to see Gambit make an appearence. Naturally the classic actors reprise their roles and perform to their usual high standard and fail to disappoint.
The effects are second to none and the acting is on the same level. The film ended without a point to it but left us with a craving for more, although sadly we may not see more for a number of years. I would highly recommend this film and I hope that sooner rather than later we get a 4th movie, before we are forced to suffer through a new cast.

Not perfect but pretty decent
Review date: 2007-12-11 Rating: 8 out of 10

Without going into too much of the story, I think Ratner did a pretty good job. However, I feel that quite a bit could be improved.
The length of the film is too short, more story was needed & Jean Grey should have spoken her mind more. But overall I enjoyed it alot.

Picture quality is great, but Ratner has gone for a slight grainy-ish look which I, personally am not keen on.

Sound quality is also great.

Overall, very good.
