Product Description

Wealthy, stage-struck Nan Carter strikes a bet that she can say "no" to everything for 48 hours. If she wins, she gets the $25,000 to back a Broadway musical vehicle for herself. She's determined, even if it means saying "no" when the fella she loves pops the question. Nan doesn't know it yet, but her fortune has been wiped out in the crash of '29. Doris Day is a sunny sensation in "Tea For Two", a flapper-era musical romp loosely based on the two-time Broadway smash "No, No Nanette". Gordon Macrae and Gene Nelson provide songs, dance and romance. Skilled farceurs Eve Arden, Billy DeWolfe and S.Z. "Cuddles" Sakall deliver lots of laughs. And the Gershwins, Vincent Voumans, Harry Warren, Otto Harback and other Tin Pan Alley greats supply wonderful melodies, including the title tun, "Do Do Do", "I Only Have Eyes For You", "I Want To Be Happy" and lots more.

Funny little musical, but not restored
Review date: 2007-10-02 Rating: 8 out of 10

This version of Tea for Two is from the DVD box The Doris Day Anthology, and is , as such, not available seperately, except from selles who spilt up the box. The movie is only available in this edition, as it has not yet (October 2007) been released in the US on DVD in a proper restored version.
This edition seems to be a transfer of the original British VHS edition a couple of decades ago. It is not restored, but since the VHS version was not bad at all for a movie that is 57 years old, it is quite watchable. The sound is fine.

Tea for Two is not one of Miss Days best movies, but it has a whimsical charm, very good songs indeed, and a plot that is silly enough to make this quite enjoyable. The writing is often funny, and quite a few lines are highly enjoyable, especially when delivered by master character actors like the always funny and sarcastic Eve Arden and the very original S. Z. Sakall. Miss Day and Gordon MacRae sing well, and it is a pleasure to watch Gene Nelson dance. Definitely not a master piece, but quite enjoyable.
