Amazon.co.uk Review

After making her name in The Princess Diaries, Anne Hathaway takes a radical detour with this edgy independent drama. As Allie, a wealthy gangsta wannabe, she makes no excuses for her delinquent behaviour: "We're just teenagers and we're bored." When her Pacific Palisades posse, including pal Emily (Bully's Bijou Phillips), starts hanging out with a Latino gang (including Six Feet Under's Freddy Rodríguez), they learn what thug life is really about. Hathaway couldn't be more game: She swears, she fights--she disrobes (several times). Written and directed by Oscar winners Stephen Gaghan (Traffic) and Barbara Kopple (American Dream), Havoc plays like a B movie, in the vein of the superior crazy/beautiful, and was released straight to video. For Hathaway fans, it's a chance to see this young talent in a very different light, but for Gaghan and Kopple followers, this lurid morality tale is sure to come as a letdown. --Kathleen C. Eye-Wateringly Bad

Let's say you have made gobs and gobs of money doing kiddy flicks but then realise that your ambitions to be taken seriously as an actress are never going to happen unless you do something seriously naughty. What do you do? Get your jugs out and wave them at some seriously offensive Mexican stereotypes. Throw in a bit of unbelievable girl or girl action with the veteran of teen slutdom - Bijou Philips and hey presto - you get a part in Brokeback Mountain and become the hottest new actress in Hollywood. The best bit is that the movie is so lousy that it goes straight to DVD and everything seems to be peachy keen until those losers on digg and youtube realise that they can virally make your tits nerd news instantly. Oh well.
Don't rent this gawd awful movie. It is terrible.

Unwatchable
Review date: 2007-09-15 Rating: 4 out of 10

I guess reviews should warn people about bilge as well as eulogise the great. Hence...

I nearly always watch movies through, but I could only handle about 15 minutes of this. Its about a bunch of what we know over here in the UK as Wiggas - white teens aping only the less socially acceptable elements of non-white culture & just generally getting it all wrong purely by the act of trying to 'get it' at all. In theory, its a good subject for a film, but its low-budget & low-brow stuff, with the usually interesting Bijou Phillipps not helping to press-gang any decent standard of acting out of her co-'stars'. Maybe the point comes into focus later on, but I found it sexually exploitative & rather unflattering to young people (I work with em & they're by no means all like this). Avoid.

Decent Watch

Ok this is not the best movie you will ever see, but it is full of nice lookin ladies who get topless every now and again. Respect for the track at the start of the film also' bishop lamont'. Granted the white boys (wiggers) in the flick can be annoyin, but im sure people like that exist. There are times in the film when you think this is boring and corny, but it is quickly turned around by some powerful scenes and very good acting. The main actress in the film plays a very good role as a deeply confused and lonely woman on the inside but tries to hide it on the outside. Rent it but maybe dont buy it. although im considering buying it for the nice ladies and the plot is ok. its only short movie too, so it ticks along nicely and would be an easy re-watchable film.
