Amazon.co.uk Review

Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers (1989) was the Disney Studio's second weekday afternoon syndicated-cartoon show. Like its predecessor, Ducktales (1987), the series began with a two-hour movie. Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers to the Rescue was recut into the first episodes, which are not included in this set. Chip and Dale were originally pantomime characters who bedeviled Donald Duck and Pluto in two dozen short cartoons. Rescue Rangers recasts them as adventurers who solve mysteries and right wrongs. In addition to a voice, Chip gets a leather jacket and Indiana Jones-style fedora; Dale talks and sports a Hawaiian shirt. They're joined in their escapades by Monterey Jack, a large mouse with a prognathous jaw and a bad Crocodile Dundee accent; Gadget Hackwrench, the inevitable spunky girl/mouse; and Zipper, a housefly.

The Rangers' adventures play like a mixture of Disney's The Rescuers and The Great Mouse Detective, with elements of Hanna-Barbera's Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? stirred in. Chip, Dale, and the other Rangers outwit criminal cats, mad scientists, and crooked mice. All of the far-fetched stories seem to feature the same slapstick chases, Rube Goldberg contraptions, and villains getting their rear ends chomped. Disney purists objected to turning the classic characters of Chip 'n' Dale into something they'd never been, but Gen-Y kids liked Rescue Rangers, which ran for 65 episodes. --Charles Solomon

Chip 'n' Dale to the rescue
Review date: 2007-09-10 Rating: 10 out of 10

This 80's series was very popular on TV but has only rarely be re-run now it's been moved to DVD format fans can watch over and over again without the wear and tear the VHS version suffered from.

If you like Disney TV series this will delight you also if you remember from the original TV broadcast.

Great Set
Review date: 2007-08-09 Rating: 10 out of 10

First of all I want to address what someone else on here said about this not being season 1. If you read it it says "First Collection" it does not say series or season 1. A collection of episodes can be in any order and do not have to run from the first episode. The picture quality on the set is fine considering how old this is now, the audio is also pretty good. At £5 for 20 episodes this is a must buy for any Rescue Rangers fan.

A welcome DVD release
Review date: 2007-04-12 Rating: 10 out of 10

This DVD set consists of the epidodes 1 - 21 from season 1 except for episode 16 "Normie's Science Project".

These are all presented in chronological order however it stops short of the complete first season...the last few episodes of season 1 missing from this set.

I am hoping there will be a volume two and it will pickup where this set leaves off.

The series is very enjoyable to watch today and it was when it first aired in the late 80's.

Video and Audio quality are very acceptable...a few bars better than the broadcast quality. There does not appear to have been any restoration work on this release but quality is very good in any case.

I am thankful Disney has decided to release this series as with other Disney afternoon shows like Ducktales. Hoping for the others (Talespin, Gummi Bears and Darkwing Duck) will be coming.

Recommend this set highly. Support these releases with a purchase and send Disney the message we want the rest!

So climb on board the Rangermobile and set off for a wild ride with CHIP N' DALE RESCUE RANGERS!

IT'S NOT SERIES ONE
Review date: 2007-04-06 Rating: 2 out of 10

This is a review of this particular DVD boxset and not the series itself, which is perfect fun for children or anyone who remembers watching it growing up.

The problem is this dvd is labeled 'Series One' however, it doesnt have any of the first episodes on it, and the others are in unchronological random order. It seems to start itself halfway through the series. I was disappointed because I was especially fond of the first episode, and episodes where Chip and Dale first meet Gadget the mouse. These are not on this dvd.

What they have done is thrown together a few random episodes onto dvds and called it 'Series one'.

OK you would expect a definitive looking three-dvd boxset titled 'Rescue Rangers - Series one' to actually be the first series! misleading. I dont know where the first episodes are, maybe in the second or third series boxset (which would make trying to watch the episodes in order very inconvenient) or just left out all together, which is sad.

Overall this 'series' of dvds are just lazily put together and NOT what they actually claim to be.
