A good laugh
Review date: 2008-10-25 Rating: 8 out of 10
Fans of Doyle are sure to enjoy this DVD. In the best traditions of European cinema, it was clearly made with a modest budget and there are no household names in the cast. It is all the better for that.
It stays very close to the original story, so won't upset folk who have already read the book. Perhaps the only thing missing is the desperation and pathos in the book, which don't come over as intensely in the film. A really good laugh, though.

hilarityReview date: 2008-04-07 Rating: 10 out of 10larry and his mate bimbo love their pints, larry hasnt worked in ages but insists he doesnt like doing nothing but bimbo is devastated to be let go from his job after 25 years. used to unemployment larry does his best to cheer up his best mate be it on the golf course or in the pub.
bimbos pay off from his job isnt what he wanted but they stagger through christmas and before long bimbo has bought a horrendous van and attempts to go into the chip van industry with larry as his partner. this was set around the time of italia 90 and with ireland in their first world cup bimbo and larry try to cash in and do so big time. as the world cup adventure sees ireland get to the quarter finals larry and bimbo rake in the money but soon their relationship becomes tainted.
larry hates bimbos wife and with bimbo bossing larry around and larry unhappy with this the relationship seems doomed. the purchase of an engine is then rendered useless when they serve one customer at the beach a battered nappy.
a night on the tiles does little to bring the two together again and soon nails are being driven into the coffin of their friendship. bimbo is unhappy that larry twice hired one of his kids without permission. larry also joined a union further annoying bimbo and after a horrendous visit fro mthe health board bimbo is faced with the heart breaking decision. does he bin the van for a life of unemployment or does he leave behind the best mate hes ever had?
although that may sound tragic, in truth the story behind this is just hilarious.
