I always felt Crossroads got a bit of a raw deal with everyone quick to knock it and this DVD set clearly shows it really was a good show in its day although it did have a habit of regularly butchering the cast.
Episodes included on these discs are an early episodes from 1966 featuring dizzy waitress Marilyn played by Sue Nicholls now better known as Audrey Roberts in "Coronation Street".
An early colour episode from 1969 is here featuring Meg's evil 2nd husband Malcolm Ryder starting to poison her.
Adam Chance's(Tony Adams) first appearance is included here as Meg(Noele Gordon)thinks she may face financial ruin because of her late husband Hugh's business deals.
Other episodes include Shughie(Angus Lennie)caught vandalising his own kitchen and the episode set after the famous motel fire is particularly gripping with Diane and Jill fearing the worst about the missing Meg.
Of course Meg turns up on the QE2 when she famously says goodbye to Jill and a lot of TV reviewers wrongly say this is Noele Gordon's last appearance in "Crossroads",it wasn't,she returned in 1983 for two episodes in Venice when she turns up at Jill and Adam's honeymoon.
The special bonus on this DVD set are four "missing episodes" from 1976 recovered in a special compliation form,this is around the time Diane(Sue Hanson) met Benny,(Paul Henry)who went to be one of the most popular characters on the show.
Some extras on this DVD set are a special on Noele Gordon when she deals with some critics who are particularly scathing,Miss Gordon hold her own though.
My favourite era of Crossroads was the mids 70s with Benny,hairdresser Vera(Zeph Gladstone)reliable Diane,smoothy David Hunter(Ronald Allen)Jane Smith(Sally Adcock)Meg of course,Sandy(Roger Tonge)and Jill(Jane Rossington)going from one drama to the next!
Its great to indulge in TV nostalgia!
