Compelling and Superb
Review date: 2008-07-30 Rating: 10 out of 10
I waited a very long time for this series to arrive on DVD and I am certainly not dissapointed. Great acting, great characters (this series is where Bulman originated) and great shots of London in the 70's.
For those into crime series like The Sweeney, Special Branch, Hazell etc this is a must buy. Terrific.

They should have made some more Review date: 2007-12-18 Rating: 6 out of 10An enjoyable if incoherent slab of black comedy sprinkled with wit and action.
The series follows the adventures of Spider Scott (Yardley) a reformed cat burglar with an uncanny knack of being able to climb in and out of the tallest building with the presence of a nimble cat.
Hot on his heels is a cop (Henderson) and an array of gangsters the secret service unscrupulous aristocrats and his demanding lover Magie.
All eager to secure Scots profitable services for their own agenda.
The dialogue and settings are colorful and rich in character and there are lot of familiar faces to fans of seventies television. Yardley gives a star turn worthy of the big screen playing a likable character, a contrast to the characters he is remembered for playing in Howard's way and the secret army
Worth watching as an escapist fantasy with an urban context. If you like Callen the Sweeney old Bogart films or anything written by Trevor Preston then this will be your cup of tea.
Better then any of the over inflated nonsense that makes up today's TV dramas
An odd productionReview date: 2007-11-11 Rating: 2 out of 10The title of the series is based on a character with an unusual genetic make-up. Spider Scot, released from prison after serving a sentence for burglary, is targeted by HMG secret services for his special qualities.
He proves to be a shrewd and intelligent man but other than that (unless I missed something) he didn't seem anything out of the ordinary.
I'm not suggesting that potential buyers should take my word for it, indeed others may find it interesting and entertaining, but I personally found great difficulty in watching the complete series - it was just so boring.
There was nothing wrong with the casting (Stephen Yardley was quite plausible as the main character, given his tall slender physique, good looks and competence as an actor) but everyone in it seem badly served by a poor script.
On reviewing it I tried hard to put my finger on what the series lacked. It may have been that there were not enough action scenes and the story relied too much on plain dialogue. What there was did very little to give the title role any real meaning. It wasn't helped either by the fact that the individual stories were spread out over too many episodes. It's hard to imagine viewers feeling compelled to watch the next instalment.
In summary I can only describe it as featuresless, drawn out with no dramatic impact and an utterly pointless title.
Sorry!
