Brilliant in a B movie sort of way!

What can i say about this set? Chuck Norris is no actor (and never has been) but there is so much to enjoy in these three films. The production values are poor in a way that only the legendary Cannon studios could be, yet what makes these films watchable is the fact that some effort has gone into making them. Chuck Norris was the Steven Seagal of the 1980's, churning out some ridiculous but fun movies that appealed to guys like me who were schoolkids in the mid 1980s. MIA 1 & 2 are drama/action movies about American POW's who were still captive years after Vietnam ended. Sound familiar? of course it does but to be fair to Mr Norris, MIA was made the year before Rambo - First Blood part 2. Rambo may have had Sly flexing his muscles in the big budget, big Hollywood release (so beloved of the late President Reagan) but Chuck got there first. However Chuck had the (mis)fortune to be doing films for cheapo Cannon films so most of his films went straight to VHS outside of the USA and became a great favourite of small video stores and 14 year old boys everywhere.
MIA 2 'The begining' is more of the same. Although there is a MIA3 , for some reason it is not part of this set. However the MIA films did at least provide pure escapism in a no brainer way. Delta Force however is just tedious nonsense. It tries to be a biggish budget vehicle to propel Norris into the mainstream but it's anti-arab rhetoric is a bit too obvious at times. The producers have the cheek to try and claim it is based on fact (which it sort of is) and it does have a big star cast (including Lee marvin in his last film role). But Delta Force is very ham fisted and laughable at times (check out the James Bond style motorbike!). At least Delta Force 2 (not part of this set) is not as preachy and plays's to Chuck's strengths (ass kicking as opposed to politics and 'acting'). Still, for the price of this set, it is well worth getting if you want to see something that doesn't require a lot of thought and hasn't got a complicated storyline. If you are a kid you'll love them, if you are an adult then make sure you have a beer in your hand. That way you'll probably enjoy them a lot more.
