Not fantastic but actually entertaining
Review date: 2007-04-19 Rating: 8 out of 10
When I heard about the series at first I was a bit sceptical, there have been too many Robin Hood movies and series and although the story is as good as ever I was not sure I would like another try at it. Then I saw a couple of the episodes thanks to a friend and I have to admit that the first ones were not exactly fantastic for me, the action was okay, the script could have been better but it was the episodes in volume 2 and 3 that made me want to buy the DVDs. It takes time to learn to care for the characters, but the story finally manages it, at the end you want to see a bit more of them, to know what will happen.
It has a bit of humour, some nice actions scenes, a couple of love triangles and some good actors and actresses, so what more can one ask for? this is fun to watch, not meant to be a work-of-art.

Absolutely DireReview date: 2007-04-08 Rating: 2 out of 10You should avoid this series like the plague. There is nothing that redeems this dire attempt, except that there probably will not be a third series (and hopefully the second will be cancelled).
The acting is poor, the scripts are shockingly bad - the scriptwriters seem to have tried to be contemporary with every part of it, nothing wrong with that if you can do it well, but they can't even do it - the storylines are lacking in every aspect. I wouldn't complain if this was aimed at kids, but it wasn't, and the alleged huge budgets do not reflect any part of it (I suspect the budgets were actually purloined for some other part of the BBC).
The worst part for me is the miscasting. The actor who plays Guy of Gisbourne would have been better as Robin Hood. Marion??? - less said the better, and what made them put Jonas Armstrong as Robin will forever remain a mystery to me!!!
It's not a patch on the old Richard Greene series, let alone the Michael Praed/Jason Connery series. Do yourself a favour, give the cash to charity instead. It'll be more worthwhile.Fantastic!Review date: 2007-03-02 Rating: 10 out of 10The last of the DVDs in this series--unfortunately! The series was a BBC success-and the DVDs were too!
These last four episodes build up to the grand climax of the series in episodes 12 and 13, which are perhaps some of the most heartbreaking of the series.
Episodes 10 and 11 are Robin Hood action all the way, full of the thrills already experienced in the other episodes, with all the humorous elements added and those sweet scenes you love to watch between Much and Robin, and the continuing rivalry between Gisborne and the Sheriff.
Episodes 12 and 13, on the other hand, are amazing. Guaranteed to make you laugh, cry and scream at the screen in frustration, they are some of the best Robin episodes ever written.
The actors and actresses continue to excel at their characters, along with all the action and the swordplay of the last two DVDs.
Once again, it is a highly recommended DVD for all those fans of BBC dramas and Robin Hood in general.
From strength to strength!Review date: 2007-03-01 Rating: 10 out of 10The end of this first series was every bit as good as the rest.
I was a bit disappointed at one point when it looked as though the next series was going to be a major character down, that episode was a strong one, and very emotional. I think most people deep down like a good romance story - and it looked as though that particular one was going to end there.
BUT...!
The next episode had the type of funny line we've expected to hear in this show ("'I'm not being funny but...") and the romance plot was back on - stronger and better than ever!
I can't wait to see the next series of Robin Hood, the characters are well established now, there's great scope for more action (and a bit more romance too!).
