Superb western
Review date: 2007-11-25 Rating: 10 out of 10
Franco Nero is Keoma a "half-breed" loner and gunfighter who after years away returns to his childhood home. When there he discovers the town is run by a greedy landowner and his sadistic bandits, he also comes into conflict with his much despised and vengeful half brothers...
"Keoma" is directed by Enzo G. Castellari (The New Barbarians/Street Law) and it's an absolutely brilliant film and one of the best westerns ever made. The cinematography is outstanding with beautiful scenery and there are numerous imaginative and high class scenes. You could say there are influences from Leone and Peckinpah but Castellari has a style all of his own and his talent as a director is showcased to the full here. The action sequences are of the highest quality packed with suspense and violence and are enjoyable and exciting. Franco Nero puts in a great powerful performance in the lead and other cast members include William Berger (Sabata), Olga Karlatos (Zombie), Donald O'Brian (Zombie Holocaust) and Woody Strode.
The dvd release from Blue Underground is region 0 and the picture is brilliant. Extras include a commentary by Enzo G. Castellari, an interview with Franco Nero and some biographies. I recommend you pick this classic up now!
