'Flo, Flo - ebb a little' . .
Review date: 2008-06-27 Rating: 10 out of 10
'Cleo', 'Khyber', 'Camping' - this vastly underrated Carry On surpasses them all.
This is the one that was made on the cusp - the first in colour, the last scripted by Norman Hudis, before the distinctly broader Talbot Rothwell took over the pen. It is also, obviously unconsciously, showing a Britain on the cusp too - these silly, varied, sometimes foolish but essentially civilised characters interacting - well, one only has to watch some of the idiot crudities of the later Carry Ons to see that 'the past is a different country ' indeed.
Leaving all that aside, it is the best acted of the lot, perfectly cast to the smallest roles, from Captain Sid James down. It is the best scripted, too, the various plotlines interweave then resolve in a deeply satisfactory and moving way - and it is just plain funny but with the humour varying from the slapstick to the positively Restoration ('I do not say that I hope that you choke - I merely gloat at the possibility') And Kenneth Williams is NOT mugging and all the better for it.
This one is well overdue for reassessment.

worth your time for sure Review date: 2007-03-12 Rating: 6 out of 10released in 1962 and the first carry on film in colour, oddly the follow up carry on was back to black and white, the gang turn their attention to the cruise liner industry and a sail throughout the seas, well the budget would never allow that to happen for real but thats what is intended and the results are for the most part very enjoyable.
Carry on cruising is a film that showcases more obvious humour than the double entendres and bawdy humour that would follow more or less from the next in the series onwards so with that you get a more family based family, and a comedy that could easily have been something that the marx brothers starred in back in the 1930s for example.
Most of the main characters are here with two notable exceptions, babara windsor wasnt yet a member so she isnt included in that, charles hawtrey bailed ship so to speak during this film over problems over pay and joan simms was ill during filming, all of those who star in this do their jobs well and the film passes off as a funny carry on but not one of the all time classics, they would come in the latter part of the 60s when socities views changed and the carry on team challenged all.
