carry on constable,1960,is the fourth carry on and the first to feature sid james ,who after being kicked off the tony hancock show by a clearly threatened hancock found his fame and glory in the carry on series ,so to hell with you hancock, anyway this is a film with family beliefs at heart, more so than the later carry ons of course, this is an innocent yet still uplifting look at life in the police force,a look at life when it was probably simpler,a look at life with new recruits, some of the more basic ideas were certainly used years later with the police academy series.
The regulars that feature here include joan sims, sid james, kenny williams, kenny connor ,hattie jacques and charles hawtrey so thats good reason to watch this, lslie philips also appears and he is good as a plum in mouth posh englishman who isnt used to a regime like the police, all in all happy endings for all are the order of the day and in truth whats wrong with that, carry on constable is a harmless film that while not really a carry on great offers enough to stay in the films you should at least get.
