Dario Argento Ultimate Collection

RRP: £24.99
Not enough information...
Review date: 2008-06-04 Rating: 6 out of 10

Thank Heavens for other amazon users telling the punters what's actually ON these discs- not only is Amazon.co.uk's spec next to useless, as usual (they NEVER give enough technical information/extras, unlike Amazon.com which tells the buyer EVERYTHING on the discs) but the dvd packaging gives absolutely NOTHING away either- no subtitle info, no sound/ratio info, no cast or crew details, year of release...so three stars for the LACK OF INFORMATION.

The films? They're great.

Dario Argento Ultimate Collection - An absolute bargain.
Review date: 2007-12-11 Rating: 8 out of 10

The Dario Argento Ultimate Collection, released by Blackhorse Entertainment in 2007, is an absolute bargain DVD collection from Amazon. For under £20.00 you get six Dario Argento movies which are The Bird with the Crystal Plumage (1970), Cat O'Nine Tails (1971), Profondo Rosso (1975), Phenomena (1985), Demons (1985), and Demons 2 (1986).
The Bird with the Crystal Plumage and Cat O'Nine Tails come in their original Italian language, accompanied by English subtitles. Demons and Demons 2 are dubbed into English, instead of being in their original Italian language. Profondo Rosso offers a choice of two languages which are either Italian or English, and Phenomena comes in its original English language.
The only downfalls with this collection are that The Bird with the Crystal Plumage is a cut version, Cat O'Nine Tails isn't the best DVD transfer, and Demons and Demons 2 are included even when they were never directed by Argento and on comparing them to movies that Argento did direct they are rather poor.
In my opinion I believe Blackhorse Entertainment should have placed the movies 4 Morshe Di Velieto Griego (a.k.a. The Four Velvet Flies) and Inferno (Suspiria is a part of another Dario Argento DVD collection in case you were wondering why I never mentioned that) in the collection as opposed to the Demons movies.
On the upside however you are, as previously mentioned, getting all these movies for a fantastic bargain price. Profondo Rosso alone would cost you nearly or equally the same price as this ultimate collection if you bought it as a stand alone DVD.
You are also getting one fantastic movie in Profondo Rosso (uncut, choice of two languages), three good movies in The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, Cat O'Nine Tails, and Phenomena (all uncut except Crystal Plumage, yet all in their original languages), and two average movies in Demons and Demons 2 (both uncut but not in their original languages, although finding them in their original languages would prove difficult anyway).
Overall this collection is definitely worth buying especially if it's below £20.00.

Not very good !
Review date: 2007-02-23 Rating: 4 out of 10

This collection has some good Argento films but.. well firstly 'The bird with the crystal plumage' is a DUBBED Italian version when it should be in English, and also its CUT. 'Cat o' nine tails' in Italian again, should be in english and has a horrible DVD transfer, 'Demons' wasnt even directed by him nor was 'Demons 2', phenomena is a bad film, the only good one is profondo rosso, which is in English.
