Beware!
Review date: 2008-09-04 Rating: 2 out of 10

I went to see this at the cinema and was totally unimpressed by this film. Although the film started of ok, the acting was poor and the polt got more and more silly as the film went on. I really wanted the film to be good, but all it did was bore me and want me to leave the cinema early.

derivative but good
Review date: 2008-05-25 Rating: 6 out of 10

not a great film by any standards but better than i thought it would be. while derivative of ALIEN and other examples of sf/horror,the film does manage to create an uneasy atmosphere and a dirty, earthy type feel that reminded me of 70s english low budjet shockers i grew up watching.
not bad

best Irish gore flick i've seen

I would recommend this as a prime example of excellent story telling, acting and special effects on a budget. I thought it was great full stop.

Unsettling and bleak horror
Review date: 2008-01-11 Rating: 8 out of 10

An unremittingly bleak film set on a rural Irish farm where a financially desperate farmer has allowed a biogenetic research firm to conduct experiments upon his pregnant cattle with devastating results.
This film is part 'meddling with nature' and part exploration of the darker side of human nature. The acting and direction are to a very high standard; all the relationships and characters within the film hinge on either desperation or are troubled in other ways which adds an edge to the film and increases the tension for the viewer.
A very solid horror in my opinion, the budget is unimportant when the characters, story and direction are as good as this and the director/writer deserves a lot of credit for having the foresight and, lets face it, courage to present such a novel potentially disasterous idea in such an accomplished way. We need more homegrown horrors like this from the UK and Ireland, very recommended.

A great little oddity!
Review date: 2007-12-18 Rating: 10 out of 10

It is important to note that this is an independant horror film and that therefore the budget is not gargantuan. As a result of this, the use of lighting, shadows, gruesome anamatronics, as well as strong performances from a great cast are used to great effect in order to make up for it. The setting of the film (a grimy farm) is probably the most significant character of all though, as it provides a bleak and believable backdrop to the story.
The story itself sounds (on paper) extremely silly. However, due to the great artistic flare of the aforementioned film features, the end result is a terryfiying experience in the vein of the original "Alien". Probably its greatest feature though, is the originality of the storyline (mutant cow foetus).
I highly reccomend that you take an hour and a half of your life to watch this largely unnoticed creature feature. Just not alone.
