An unlikely sisterhood plots a girl-powered revenge in John Tucker Must Die. When the class-overachiever (Arielle Kebbel, Aquamarine), the head cheerleader (Ashanti, Coach Carter), and the vegan alterna-girl (Sophia Bush, One Tree Hill) discover they're all dating the same guy--namely, star basketball player John Tucker (Jesse Metcalfe, Desperate Housewives)--they recruit a bashful new girl named Kate (Brittany Snow, The Pacifier) to become the ideal girl to break Tucker's heart. But as Kate uses the gang's combined wiles to lure Tucker, his interest gives her a social standing she's never had before...an intoxicating experience that may cost her a chance at honest love with another boy. John Tucker Must Die contrasts male and female behavior to cunning comic effect. The portrait of high school life is typically absurd, but the engaging cast, sprightly plot, and crisp dialogue will draw you in. It's a testament to the smooth guiding hand of director Betty Thomas (The Brady Bunch Movie, Private Parts) that ex-Playmate Jenny McCarthy's performance can genuinely be called understated. One of 2006's best teen comedies.--Bret Fetzer

Synopsis

John Tucker (Jesse Metcalfe) is a high school basketball star dating three different girls at the same time: the activist vegan (Sophia Bush), the over-achieving blonde journalist (Arielle Kebbel), and the sassy cheerleading squad captain (Ashanti). They all find out about each other and with the help of the shy new girl in school, Kate (Brittany Snow), they plot a devious revenge. After various other plots fail (such as spiking his protein powder with estrogen), the girls decide to combine their knowledge to make Kate into the perfect seduction machine and break Tucker's heart. In classic DANGEROUS LIAISONS/CRUEL INTENTIONS style, Kate becomes the talk of the school, but may end up becoming everything she used to hate. It's an amalgam of patented teen comedy formulas, but director Betty Thomas (BRING IT ON, 28 DAYS) keeps the story jumping along in fine order: no pop song montages of trying on different outfits, no soap opera angst and no parental moralising. It's all chocolate, bra-cams, basketball games, food fights, and a wealth of quotable put-downs. Metcalfe makes a perfect Tucker, a character who--to the movie's credit--is not as bad as all that. Penn Bagdley quietly steals some scenes as John's less popular brother, a music snob/slacker who falls for Kate while assisting her in science experiments. Jenny McCarthy is in fine form as Kate's hot mum, cursed with her own weakness for smooth talking men.

Great Girly Film!!
Review date: 2008-07-14 Rating: 10 out of 10

Having watched this film plenty of times, i enjoy it every time and always find myself laughing.

Being a 15 year old myself, i think this is a great movie for a girls night in, perfect with popcorn. You would find yourself crying with laughter or drooling over Jesse!

The film consists of many well known actresses including Brittany Snow, Sophia Bush, Ashanti & Arielle Kebbel, and the mega gorgeous Jesse Mc Cartney!

I also find the soundtrack really good, which suits the film.

To round it up, this film is about a Guy (JesseMetcalfe) who date 3 girls, who are all totally opposites. When the girls find out that he is dating all three girls, they decide to break HIS heart, and this is where all the fun bits come in!

You just gotta watch it, its amazing!!

funny but not deep enough
Review date: 2008-06-24 Rating: 6 out of 10

I must admit that I wasn't expecting a lot of deep, meaningful scenes in this film, It's a chick flick, one for girls to watch with bowls of popcorn and swoon at the male lead without taking it too seriously. However I have an annoying trait of analysing both plot and characters in every film I see so I had to look further. John Tucker's character is (not surprisingly) about as arrogant and chauvenistic as they come. His motto appears to be 's*** them then leave' without a thought for thier feelings after he has had his fun (no doubt the dream of every american 'jock'), all the time stupidly unaware that the outcome of his actions ('dating' 3 girls at once) will come back to bite him. The girls join together with the 'invisible' yet weirdly slutty new girl at school and plot to get him back by breaking his heart like he broke theirs, all the time continually swooning over his supposed sex god charisma which seems to defeat the object of the project. The three girls, although each an individual character (school slut, school nerd, typical cheerleader)lack any personal depth or sentiment, seeming simply to operate like cyborgs whose only tasks are to annihalate the school player. Funny film, but lacking anything more.

Great cast!
Review date: 2008-06-12 Rating: 10 out of 10

Let me start off by saying I can't stand Jesse Metcalfe, he seems so annoying and arrogant and maybe thats how he manages to play the role of John Tucker (arrogant and annoying) so well, but I can't deny he is briliant in this film, its really funny, especially the part where he has had the female hormones and his nipples are hurting during the game, the whole film is laugh out loud!
The 4 girls are all super hot and its always great to see the lovely Sophia Bush on screen. Ashanti is suprisingly good, and Arielle and Brittany are fabulous too.
Oh and for Gossip Girl fans its a chance to see Penn Badgley in a film aswell playing John Tuckers very different brother.

SO funny!

This film is great! Yes, it is a chick flick. So what? That doesn't change the fact that it's amazing!
I love this movie and the actors & actresses in it, I have seen them in other films + tv series' and they are just as good in this film.
VERY funny - a great movie if you enjoyed Mean Girls, She's the Man, etc.

Ace Film!!
Review date: 2008-01-03 Rating: 10 out of 10

I have noticed that this film has been compared to Mean Girls and I find this very insulting to the cast as they are all very talented actors, something lacking in Mean Girls. Jesse Metcalfe proves he is more than a hot gardener, albeit while wearing a thong, he also has a good sense of comic timing. I was already a huge fan of Sophia Bush and her One Tree Hill character, Brooke but I love her even more after this. Jenny McCarthy also provides a suprise - her acting doesn't suck in this film. She plays a down to earth mother and is suprisingly good.

This film also has a very cool soundtrack which you notice throughout the film. Very wise to check it out if you like the film. This is definately one to watch.
