Yo Adrian! I did it!
Review date: 2007-11-02 Rating: 8 out of 10

ROCKY II opens just where ROCKY leaves off. Rocky, having lost his title match with Apollo, is back on the streets of Philadelphia. He's had some success, but doesn't want to pursue the fighting lifestyle for the sake of Adrian, and so tries to make his way in this world with regular jobs. Adrian and he get married, and even have a son in the course of the movie.

Meanwhile, Apollo is itching for a rematch, because, even though Rocky lost, he put up an amazing fight, and Apollo feels his credibility is on the line as a fighter if he doesn't put Rocky away once and for all. Rocky doesn't want to fight because of Adrian, but agrees to do a fight. He starts training, but only half-heartedly, and Mick takes him to the ringer for the way he is training, since he is so hung up over Adrian and her attitude toward his fighting. She ultimately falls into a coma due to complications with delivery of their son, at which Rocky stops all training and won't leave her side.

She comes out of the coma with those memorable lines "Rocky, I want you to do one thing for me. Win!" And Mick yells in the background "What are we waiting for" and so begins the training montage and the fight. The fight is much more brutal than in the first ROCKY, and it's only literally within the last few seconds of the last round we find out who wins the match (and it shouldn't be that hard to ascertain who the victory is this time around).

There's a pretty accurate summary. As far as the five sequels go, this is the most like the original film. All the characters from the first film are in this one. Rocky hasn't become as successful as he has in ROCKY III, and he is still struggling to get buy. The film really explores the bond that Rocky and Adrian have together, and it is only thru Adrian's blessing that Rocky is able to really break loose and give the fight his all.

The training montage is one of my favorites in the Rocky franchise, though admittedly somewhat cheesy. Rocky runs along the streets of Philadelphia, and all these kids start following up, and they run up the stairs of the art museum with the famous Rocky theme playing, and Rocky jumps up and down victoriously. Cheesy, but somehow it works, and you can tell that this is one of the points in Rocky's story where the city of Philadelphia really pulls together to support their favorite local hero.

The fight is much more realistic and brutal than the first film. At the end of the fight, Stallone looks extremely roughed up. It's probably the worst Rocky looks in all the films.

Like most sequels, the film doesn't quite capture the genius of the ROCKY, but it is the most similar in vein and atmosphere of all five sequels to the first. While the other movies got further and further away from Rocky's original life, this movie is easily closest in tone and atmosphere to the original, and it really does feel like a rematch, or an extension, of the original film, as opposed to ROCKY III, IV, V, and BALBOA, which feel like wholly separate, yet connected, entities.

ROCKY II simply takes us more into Rocky's world, and how that world has changed in light of the events in ROCKY. There are a lot of good lines and scenes in the film, and while it doesn't quite capture the success of the original, the film is just as sincere and just as big-hearted as its predecessor processor. The endorsement scenes in the beginning are worth the price of admission alone.

And of course, it has the immortal line "Yo Adrian! I did it!"

Rocky has become an American icon, and for those wanting to know why, this is a good movie to watch, even if the first is better.

Good sequel that repeats the successful formula
Review date: 2007-05-13 Rating: 8 out of 10

The film allows the beloved characters to grow, as great sequels often do. Stallone's direction is not very imaginative, but it is clear that he did his homework and he does a wonderful job balancing all aspects of his screenplay. Slicker than the first film, but still a very personal drama that knows when (and how) to push the right buttons.

theres one thing i want you to do for me.......WIN!

the sequel to rocky could have been a disaster,it could have followed the same styles all over again, luckily it didnt and the sequel is every bit as bright as the original, some would say its better as rocky goes one step further than the first fight, but thats a debate for another day, what i know is that rocky 2 is a classic and i could watch it all day.
More complex than the rockys that followed, rocky 2 is another journey,we deal with rockys marriage, his dilemma with whether he can box again due to possible eye loss, the birth of his son robert, adrian slipping into a coma, apollo creed demanding a rematch as his pride is hurt and rocky training like a madman when the time approaches and a memorable fight with the champ creed.
The film is sentimental in parts but also inspiring and very spine tingling and the film plays to what the audience wants without delving into cheapness, rocky two is a film that will forever be a true classic.

Round 2: The fight continues
Review date: 2007-02-02 Rating: 10 out of 10

It's easy just to assume that Rocky 2 is simply the same plot as Rocky ( Rocky fights Apollo). However, this is incorrect! Rocky 2 is about a man trying to live with fame that he doesn't necassarily need or want. Its about being popular in the media eye one minute, then discarded the next. Rocky 2 is a tear jerking tale, and Sylvester Stallone has done amazingly well to manage to pull off, a second time film that its just as incredible as the first.

Any emotion felt for Rocky in the first movie is still here, if not more. Through all the serious nature of the sequal there is still a lot of fun to be had, such as " You gotta catch a chicken"!!

Overall though Rocky 2 has always been my favourite of all the Rocky films (although i heavily enjoyed Rocky Balboa), and it should never be discarded as simply being a cheap souless sequal BECAUSE IT ISN'T!

Rocky's second match
Review date: 2007-01-28 Rating: 8 out of 10

After the surprise and upset win of Rocky over the Best Picture giants of Taxi Driver and All the President's Men. The Producers, Chartoff and Winkler were enthuastic to make a second Rocky film, which is in those days was very rare, prior to being associated with Raging Bull.

Rocky 2, finds Rocky back in Philadelphia strugging to find some part-time work, preferably working in an office. Creed, on the other hand, faces severe backlash from his fans for the way he let himself down by his performance. Creed is determined to bring Rocky back into the ring to finish the "real" fight, for financial purposes and to show how great he still is..........

Adored by the fans who saw the precedessor, Rocky II is a simple film, but with a larger budget spent, things have improved, with Stallone behind as well as starring this time. Since we were left on a high, last time around, it soons becomes gritty with Rocky rather upset that the fight was a deliberate fix to make some money for the champ. Stallone does give this more attention than the original, he wants to outline how Rocky has all of a sudden, seen this life prosperous and how he strives to leave his boxing career behind with little success.

The editing like before, now focuses more on how Rocky tries to be content with what he has now been given and the slow weary day-to-day appearance of how Rocky is starting to deal with, where the fight is being built upon unexpectably towards the finish.

Rocky II didn't make as much profit as the original did and it also was penalised for being too similiar in style to the original. However, Rocky II is best viewed for being a sequel, where some scenes trimph, which in some ways, you could say, superior to the original.
