Review date: 2007-05-16 Rating: 10 out of 10
This second season introduces us to the lovely paranormal investigator Phil Whyman, psychologist Matthew Smith, parasychologist Ciaran O'Keeffe. We also meet the new historian Richard Felix, who has a great way of describing the history of a location in the most scary way possible! Also we still have the Queen of Scream, Yvette, Karl, Stuart and Derek. Lets look at the scary moments:
Brannigan's Night Club, Lancashire - Much of the activity appeared to occur in the upper floors of the building, where strange noises were detected and both Yvette and other members of the crew thought they could smell 'baby sick' then later, on a tape, u can hear a child crying or calling for their Daddy (just listen!)
Tutbury Castle, Staffordshire - Outside the castle, Derek feels a great massacre occurred in the area, connected to a local stone monument. Inside, he picks up on a great deal of negative energy, particularly in the King's Bedroom and by the fireplace in the Great Hall, where he makes a connection with King Henry. The team then convince a member of the castle's staff to dress like Mary Queen of Scots and perform a speech, during which a light anomaly is recorded. During the vigils, a door appears to close by itself, while taps followed by a loud crash, are heard near a window, supposedly haunted by an old lady.
The Station Hotel, West Midlands - In the hotel's restaurant, Derek picks up the presence of a maid, possibly murdered by a former landlord of the building. Yvette begins a female only vigil in Room 217. While there, a series of lights are seen in the corner of the room and the bed is seen to move. Cath also senses something touching her face and its later revealed that three small scratches are on her cheek. A locked off camera in Room 214 shows a chair moving around the room by itself, though no one was in the room.
The Skirrid Inn, Wales - Starting in the bar, Derek connects with the spirit of a local holy man and also a 'White Lady' who would be seen in the area. He later reveals that the name Price would have some significance to the investigation and remarks that the name has a connection with a local churchyard. While visiting the graveyard later in the evening, several Price family gravestones are seen. Derek also picks up the spirit of a sheep thief, John Crowther and identifies the room where Jefferies would have meted out his justice. During the vigils many odd sounds are heard and a door is seen to open by itself.
Three Derby Inns, Derbyshire - At the Bell Inn, Derek connects with a servant girl, Jilly, murdered by a vicious soul who was also present, named John. Another murderer was detected as Derek moved on to Lafferty's. He claimed a skull found on the premises was a girl called Sally, killed by a soldier named Theo. Finally at the Heritage Centre, Derek sensed the presence of many children, plus a man named John who would be responsible for a great deal of poltergeist activity. The team divided into three groups for the night's vigils. At Lafferty's, strange thuds and noises were heard when the team asked for a sign while investigating the ladies toilet. More odd sounds were heard at the Heritage Centre, while at The Bell a door slams shut seemingly unaided and a locked off camera captures a light swinging by itself.
Llancaiach Fawr Manor House, Wales - Derek connects with the spirit of Martha the housekeeper and also the two young Pritchard children who roam the building. They are two of many members of the Pritchard family whose spirits visit the Manor. In the birthing room, Derek feels it is the two children who rock the crib, situated there. In the Great Hall, during the vigils, Derek states that he believes Martha was murdered, at which point the sound of footsteps running is recorded. A shadowy figure is spotted by Karl and strong light anomalies are picked up in various rooms. Creaking noises and a series of loud bangs are also detected.
Pengersick Castle, Cornwall - Derek connects with a young girl on the battlements who is scared of another spirit called John. This girl may have fallen to her death. In the Solar Room, Derek is forced to abandon his investigation as he is overcome by a choking sensation, immediately after detecting a monk in the room. Other members of the team also have breathing difficulties. Upstairs, Derek picks up the evil alchemist John Milliton, as members of the crew hear a strange noise at their feet that can't be readily identified. During the night, tents are set up in the castle's grounds. Team members claim to hear a great deal of rustling and movement outside their tents. Inside the castle, Yvette hears a door open and then sees the door at the bottom of the stairs wide open. It suddenly slams shut. The noise of running is also recorded on the gravel outside the building
The Clockhouse, Surrey - Derek senses a connection between the legendary Knights Templar and Fred Batt, the building's current owner, suggesting Fred may have been one of these knights in a former life. The owner agrees he was drawn to the building for some unknown reason and also traces a Templar connection to his heritage. During a lone vigil, motion detectors are triggered in a room Yvette is investigating. Later, Derek senses a woman called Ruth standing next to Fred. Fred reveals he also owns the night club where Ruth Ellis is thought to haunt, which leads to the second part of the investigation.
Caesar's Night Club, London - Derek Acorah picks up on the name Ruth, and the names of some of the club's former celebrity clients such as Reggie Kray. He claims Ruth admits killing her lover, but that they are reunited in the afterlife. In the club's dressing rooms, Derek senses that the dark arts or witchcraft could have been performed there. Strange sounds are heard and several light anomalies are picked up on camera.
THE SCARIEST SHOW - House of Detention, London - On his initial investigation, Derek senses the spirit of a highwayman, called Jack. As they enter the main buildings, he picks up a highly malevolent presence, possibly a prisoner turned jailor who delighted in torturing the inmates. As they go deeper into the prison, this spirit threatens Derek and the crew and promises to make his presence known during the night. The entity, Michael, is joined by another evil figure, Joseph. The threats of these two beings are so graphic that the sound is muted and Derek is left in tears. At this point, Karl is seen to be struck by something, which he likens to a razor cut on his head. Fear and apprehension grow in the group as they wander the cells, experiencing communication problems and hearing various noises around them.
