Rock Around The Rot
Review date: 2008-03-26 Rating: 2 out of 10
I bought this DVD because I was at the actual gig that's featured here, and whilst the memories of a rockin' good night out came flooding back, nothing prepared me for the awful quality of this DVD. I have seen better bootlegs filmed on an old cine camera. The bright colours bleed into one another, and the sound quality varies quite a lot...in fact, in one song it changes dramaticaly! It's like they've used two different sound sources. (I know that on the night there were two shows, but as far as I'm aware, this was the only one filmed for transmission on ATV later that same evening)
Having said that, you can see that everybody had a rollicking good night out, and if you look carefully at the start of the show, you can see the bouncers trying to keep everyone in their seats...all to no avail.
If you look carefully you can see a youthful me hanging over the stage punching the air in excitement, every now and again! (I put it down to going to too many punk gigs at the time) It's not worth paying the money just for that though!
As you'd expect, there are some great classics on here, and Bill looks just as young here as he did in 1957. How the hell did he do that?
If, like me, you were there, and you want the memory, then buy this dvd. If you're a die hard Bill Haley fan, don't waste your money.
