this is posibly the worst film i have ever seen. superman was a fantastic film superman 2 was even better especially the donner cut even superman 4 is better than this crap i mean richard pryor class actor but he takes one course on how to use a computor and over night becomes an expert with computers i mean come on that is so lame and then superman doesn't really do anything till about 40 mins in to the movie. yeah ok the bit where he turns bad is good but that is not enough to make this film worthy of been part of the superman collection

This should have been the last Superman filmReview date: 2007-04-22 Rating: 10 out of 10I remember when I used to watch this as a kid. It was my favourite Superman film and I always used to watch it everytime it was on. What I used to (and still do) like about this one was the the 20-30 minute sequence where Superman turns bad.
The plotline sees Superman going up against Robert Vaughn's 'Ross Webster', owner of a big bussiness company, and Richard Pryor's computer whizz Gus Gorman. Together they plan to steal the world's oil for their own selfish reasons. Meanwhile Clark Kent (Superman)goes back to Smallville and is reunited with his teenage sweetheart Lana Lang (Annette O Toole), who now has a young boy called Ricky. At one point Ross Webster decides that Superman is the only thing that can stop him from claiming the oil so he and his sister Vera, girlfriend Lorelei and Gus plan to 'assasinate' Superman by creating some kryptonite. However the kryptonite they creat has something wrong with it and upon receiving it at an awards ceremony in Smallville for saving a large part of America and also Ricky's life in a seperate incident, it gradually turns Superman evil instead of weakening him. Once he turns evil, the world around him watches him as he strikes fear and disgrace into those he once protected, the innocent. This all lead to a big fight between the good side and the bad side of Superman in two different entities in a juckyard, resulting in the good side eventually apprehending the evil side and going back to righting the wrongs he did around the world.
Now I watch the film on my DVD and I have to say that, after the first two films being special effects extravaganzas, that it's quite a nice change to have this film focus more on the plotline and characters. If you think Christopher Reeve makes an excellent superhero then you should see him as the evil Superman because he also makes an excellent supervillain. It's just a shame that he didn't get many other notable roles after he donned the cape. Robert Vaughn's character, althpugh he's a good villain, he is in fact just Lex Luthor from the comics with a different name. Richard Pryor, although he's funny, he should've toned it down a little because he is a little too wacky. Annette O Toole is excellent as Lana Lang and not bad looking either. Gavan o Halirilay is great as Clark's old school bully Brad.
The only bad thing about the film is that there are some characters that are just a little too OTT and annoying. Other than that it's great. Certainly much better than Superman 4, which sucked, and Superman Returns which isn't great. *****
Superman 3. It's a bit of a mess.Review date: 2005-04-27 Rating: 6 out of 10Some people say this is the best of the 4 films (You do not know what you are talking about), some say it's the worst (Have you seen number 4), it wasn't bad but it was nothing to show off about either. It was the first film to move on from the origin story but through a bad choice of director (Richard Lester) and stupid new central carachter (Gus Gorman) it turned into a poor comedy, almost a spoof. Christopher Reeve was his brilliant self as in all 4 films, but surrounding him was complete lunacy. The first two film's opening credits get you excited for what is about to come, but Lester starts this with complete acts of stupidity, it was like The Adam West Camp Batman series. Richard Pryor as Gus Gorman was pointless and annoying, the villans were poor compared to Gene Hackman's Lex Luthor and were very pantomime. The Lana idea was good and to be honest Margot Kidder never made a great Lois so she was not really missed. The fight between Clark Kent and Superman was fantastic and done without today's digital technology. It was an OK film but could and should have been 10 times better, the sad thing is with Superman 4, we did not see any improvements. If you intend to make a Superman film, either make an excellent Superman film, or just don't bother.superman 3 SHOULD be on dvdReview date: 2005-02-15 Rating: 10 out of 10whoooa, someone on here reckons its the weekest of the 4 films. whatever. 2 is boring enough to make me puke and can only be fobbed off onto honest hardworking dvd customers by fusing it with its predecesor by way of 'no more nails'. 3 is where the money is. Richard Pryor actually manages to bring his vibrant brand of comedy to a scripted production, the lack of lois IS a step forwards (whoever found thin-lipped margot kidder attractive anyway?), and this film features the most electrifying sequence in 80s movie history; good clark fighting evil superman. its like butter. the only other sequence that comes close is when kirk steals the enterprise in star trek 3 (and i hate star trek). buy it or continue your steep decent into mediocrity.Awesome Pryor at his best!!!!!+Review date: 2005-01-23 Rating: 10 out of 10If anyone says that this film is Cack, I will personally come round and beat seven shades of poo out of them.
All the Best
