Quirky nostalgia that hasn't aged well

Honey West was publicised in 1965 as "Televisions pretty private eye-full" introducing Anne Francis as the blonde PI and Judo expert, and pretty she certainly is. The series pilot was embedded in an episode of the quirky "Burke's Law" with a gritty tension between Burke and West with her ex marine side kick Sam Bolt.
Unfortunately from then on tension becomes a thing of the past and the thirty minute black and white episodes whilst high on nostalgia become pretty routine, (however the 1960s high tech surveillance van is great fun), and when towards the end of the series they try to emulate the weirder aspects of "The Avengers" (the Avengers was the catalyst for this series based on novels by G. G. Fickling) with disastrous results.
Oh, and Bruce the Ocelot, merely a very uncuddly gimmick, he is just an exotic household pet appearing in a few episodes.
However Honey West is enjoyable as a nostalgia kick and reminder of the time when crime series were entertainment.

Yet another unknown gem

This is yet another of those shows I would never have known about but for the wonder that is DVD. What is even more special for us Brits is that it doesn't appear to be available in America even though the show is from the U.S.A so make the most of it because this is a real gem.
Starring the amazingly beautiful Anne Francis, this is a detective show in the vein of the Avengers (not too surprising as the show was designed as a vehicle for Honor Blackman) but shares a lot with the spy shows popular at the time, and it's better that most of them! Anne Francis should have been a major star after this but unfortunately the show lasted only one season due to stiff competition in the ratings.
Still, let's just revel in what we have here,which is 30 episodes of superb entertainment. Everything about the show is pure class, from the cinematography to the acting (especially from Anne Francis) and to the super cool theme music, and at the price Amazon are charging this really is too good to miss.
