Unquestionably one of rock’s greatest vocalists, Rod Stewart should have titled this album Great Rock Classics of My Time. Most of these Top 40 tunes and others like Dylan's "If Not for You" were popularized in the early to mid-'70s, when Stewart was entering his rock prime. He's perfect to croon Elvin Bishop's "Fooled Around and Fell in Love," soulfully pained on Bonnie Tyler's "It's a Heartache," and right in the pocket on the Pretenders' "I'll Stand by You." And his unmistakable raspiness puts another layer of wisdom on the old Cat Steven's classic "Father & Son." But you also have to wonder about some of the safe song choices, such Badfinger's "Day After Day" and Nazareth's "Love Hurts." Why he continues to record mossy cover songs is a legitimate question. What's stopping him from getting back in trenches with some contemporary rock songwriters and really reinventing himself? The karaoke lounge is no place for a guy this great to hang. --Martin Keller

I was so happy to hear that Rod stopped singing those old fashioned songs and has returned to rock.
This album is a really cool one, his covers of these rock gems are great and his voice is "still the same".

If this was what it sounds like - a karaoke night - he'd be booed off. What a sad come-down for a once-great vocalist. I just pray he doesn't do a Motown version of this.
Another Great Rod Steart Album

This is a great cd and a must for any Rod Stewart fan. Those reviewers that knocked it, are certainly not fans of his. The selection of songs is well thought out and the backing musicians superb. I would definately recommend this cd to anyone that likes nostalga, good pop songs well sung and of course Rod.

This CD is great! It had me singing along with the tracks-and is a happy CD with a great sound to it. Take no notice of the negative comments! Maybe the person who gave negative vibes got out of bed the wrong side that day. If you like Rod Stewart, wou will enjoy this CD. It is rock classics, so if you don't know the songs you can't say - oh, this one! that's so brilliant to hear again! but you will still love the sound. With the richness of Rod's voice and his interpretation of the songs all I can say is I love it! Wait till to hear Have you Ever Seen the Rain, I'll Stand By You, It's a Heartache, If Not For You....in fact all 14 tracks. Thanks Rod - I think you are great!
Oh no, not another contractual obligation album !

I like Rod Stewart, I really do. With the Faces, he made some of the best loose and trashy pop rock ever. And the early solo albums had a similar feel, not surprisingly, since he somehow managed to persuade most of the Faces to work as his studio backing band on several of them.
The backing tracks on this are classy, well played and recorded. Likewise the vocals. Unfortunately I can't make up my mind exactly who phoned what in. It seem obvious to me that Rod and the band never saw the inside of the same studio at the same time. No feel, no empathy, no connection between singer and band.
