Review date: 2008-04-02 Rating: 4 out of 10
i was looking forward to seeing this after i'd watched open water even though many people had told me not to waste my time, but yet again i didn't listen and decided to waste my time viewing it!!The story is pretty abismal and i dont have any feelings for the characters at all!Nothing really seems to happen! This didn't grip me at all, so i don't think bothering to watch it is such a good idea!!

Average film.Review date: 2007-11-08 Rating: 6 out of 10I recently watched this dvd and in all fairness it was not too bad.My overall opinion of the film is that it says that it is based on true events but you can never tell which bits, for all we know it's based on a group of people who go out on a yacht, well that's not uncommon.Anyway I though that the story was well put together and the acting was passable. This film didn't surprise me but overall I think it is watchable and I'd recommend it as a time filler.BUY ARMBANDS AND STOP MOANINGReview date: 2007-10-22 Rating: 4 out of 10Next time you go for a dip in the middle of an ocean, check 1: leave somebody on board 2: buy a ladder 3: don't make a film about it.
I was disappointed. The cover explained the story and perhaps i built myself up to high expectations, but the film just lacked everything.
Given 2 stars as the yacht was nice.Bring on the sharks.....Review date: 2007-08-26 Rating: 4 out of 10We spent the entire movie, hoping the sharks would turn up and rev the characters up a bit, since they were clearly only half bothered whether they got on the boat or not. Why else would they just float about whinging at each other, come up with only a couple of half hearted solutions, then give up when they dont work first time.
However, I agree with an earlier reviewer in that the film did provoke a genuinely stimulating discussion amongst us about how we would get back on the boat. We decided;
1) WHY were they not holding onto the bilge pumps (or whatever they were called). The little handholes at the back that the water pumps out. Why did they prefer to tread water for the whole film?
2) the clothes idea was a good one and we came up with it after about a minute. But of course the ladies didn't want to take their clothes off and the idea failed first time.
3) wrap shorts around the knife handle, jump up (helped by the others who just seemed to watch), stab the fibreglass and reach for the ropes, like the rock/ice climbers do
4) Go under the boat and move the rudder, can you shake a rope off or something? Ok its probably a dumb suggestion, but they didn't even consider any ideas
5) two people tread water and hold their partners underarms. The two partners hook knees and make a platform with their thighs. Next person uses this as a step, and is supported from behind by the remaining person.
6) the group collect and take an inventory of all the tools they have goggles x2, knife, 3 bikinis, 3 shorts, jacket, necklaces, mobile phone, life jacket, hair extensions...... Have a little brainstorming session and come up with some ideas
7) Isn't there a hatch underneath that dumps the sewage waste? Force that open and pop your head out the loo :)
8) when the pleasure boat went past, the stranded party didn't exactly make clear SOS signs did they!!! It was all a bit limp wristed.
Oh I could go on, but I'm losing the will to live. I was bought up in a generation of clenched-a*sed viewer screaming "SWIM.......SWIIIIIM....THE SHARK IS COMING!!!". Watching this film we were genuinely hoping the sharks would come.
And what actually happens at the end?
Terror from the inside.....Review date: 2007-08-26 Rating: 10 out of 10Saw this by accident, as I couldn't sleep, & I was really pleasantly surprised...I can see if why, if you're a horror fan you might be disappointed thoroughly with this film, but my God it makes you think!
Yes, the majority of the characters are shallow (excuse the punn) & idiotic, but perhaps this was intentional. The key to the horror of this film is the terror the human mind & body can produce from within itself. In the absence of strong moral fibre, (or courage), lack of general life experience, as the are young, & without an obvious leader to bring direction, the weaknesses (or strengths) of each of the characters quickly surfaces. The lack of depth in the other characters I think was designed to highlight the strengths of others, but because they couldn't work together they become self-destructive.
Panic, paranoia, fear, shock, impulsiveness, all human emotions that are designed to be used to our advantage are shown as enemies here, because they are not sensibly channeled. Perhaps this is why their attempts to rescue themselves seem infuriatingly flawed?
Ironically, it is the person that has the most to overcome that survives. I believe this concept is the clue to understanding the ending. I empathise as I have a similar phobia...why would a doting mother risk her own life & her babies life to save that silly friend of hers? To overcome her phobia & the nightmares of losing her father, not just his spirit but his physical body too, perhaps. It is irrelevant, in a way, if he is dead or alive when he is lying on deck, she found him & brought him back (without her lifejacket). Timing is crucial here as when the other boat is circling the yacht, the baby is heard crying & the
ring can be seen floating in the water. When Amy is standing on board, no baby can be heard, the ring is around her friend & she is looking energised, ready for her next challenge.
Yes, the direction is narcissistic, tricky & sadistic, but isn't it refreshing to find something different than you expected?
