Turgid but VERY more-ish

-----SPOILERS--------

I rate this 3 star for quality of production etc but if you think of it as whether one wants to watch it or not, I'd give it 5 stars for being compelling viewing - if you like this sort of turgid idiocy. It's like Cutting It, Hotel Babylon, you just have to know what'll happen next! Cutting It & Hotel Babylon are streets ahead of Chase in respect of quality of writing but Chase is in something of the same style as Cutting It - an utter confusion of often changing relationships between a considerable number of characters, leading to general chaos.

Cutting It was high quality farce - some of the relationship twists were completely daft. Chase isn't farce nor high quality, but everyone acts it to the hilt as if they really believed in it and you can't help admiring the actors, and grimacing at the chaotic relationships and arguments, and you can't help liking some of the characters at least.

I have grown bored with tedious Tom and his wife and his messy adultery and objectionable "other", and am not sorry at how series 2 ended though it remains to be seen whether what we saw is as bad as it seemed if there's a third series. How it is Tom could expect to go off to Africa within a week or so with his wife packing in such a leisurely way at about 2 days' notice that she has time to gaze sentimentally at all kinds of clutter is beyond me, and this certainly did become farcical.

My pet hates in this series though are Rick the other vet and his boring girl-friend. Rick's heavily into whining and is a real turnoff. No wonder his feisty wife got annoyed with him. The girlfriend is more spirited but contaminated by actually liking this twerp. Rick's awful behaviour in a couple of episodes towards his beloved is really disturbing. But perhaps we are supposed to forget about that now his wife has divorced him? Frankly, she had plenty to complain about ands is well rid of the jerk.

I also quickly came to detest bad-tempered Sarah and her feud with Claudie goes over the top. My favourites in this series are Matt, Claudie (annoying though she can be but she's fun) and her two relatives now living at the Chase, also George when he was alive, and the inn-keeper.
