Mission Impossible .. as great as you remember.
Review date: 2008-06-01 Rating: 10 out of 10
The very name "Mission Impossible" resonates in the memory, and memory proves correct as we watch the devious and intriguing solutions to the impossible missions.
When Dan Briggs "Steven Hill" decides to "accept the mission" and the messages "self destruct in five seconds" another great episode is under way. Even so the series takes some time to reach its superb full potential with "Zubrovnik's Ghost" where the writers discover greater depth which continues throughout the series.
The team of five has two outstanding performers leading nearly every episode. Rollin' Hand (Martin Landau)master of disguise and a fine actor, and the glamorous Cinnamon Carter (Barbara Bane) the epitome of a 1960s film star always with major parts (no way the eye candy usually offered) who won two Emmys for her performances.
They are backed up by Barney Collier (Greg Morris) the tech expert teamed with driver and hefty weightlifter in real life Willy Armitage) (Peter Lupus who was so popular with women he even kept his marriage secret).
Add masses of fascinating obsolete technologies and this is a must have set.

Best 60 s adventure tv series.Review date: 2008-05-13 Rating: 10 out of 10I used to watch MISSION IMPOSSIBLE way back in the 60 s when itwas first shown on tv.Now even though i have not yet bought this box set i think that it is one of the best tv series of the 60s with music by the great composer Lalo Schifrin.I trully recomend it. As good as I rememberReview date: 2007-06-24 Rating: 10 out of 10This was one of my favourite TV shows in the 60's, when I was very young. Although not quite as good as S2 & 3, Series 1 is not far off.
My favourite then, and still is, Barbara Bain. I was in awe of Cinnamon Carter when I was a little girl and it is easy to see why 40 years later. She is sophisticated, smart, brave, quick witted and beautiful. Many of the TV heroines of the 60's, and even today, lack Cinammon's attributes.
Yes, the IMF succeed in their missions every time, but it is the how that kept and still keeps viewers fascinated. Enjoy the thrills. Fun! Just relax and enjoy!Review date: 2007-06-18 Rating: 8 out of 10Suspend all disbelief and settle back for a ride into the past!
Don't expect to be convinced by it, just as you don't expect to be convinced by James Bond, Harrison Ford and by a great many more 'up-to-date' films and DVDs. jUst relax and enjoy it! The characters are just as good as you will remember from the past, and the adventures they get into are FUN!
I LOVED this series, finding it hard to restrict myself to one DVD a week at times!
Ok - so it's amazing that the same small group of Americans can infiltrate themselves into a range of different nations and can be classed as locals - but forget about that! Forget about the fact that it seems dated - just enjoy the history, the drama and the characters! Enjoy the naivety of it all, and relax!!!
I enjoyed it so much that I have just ordered series 2, and will be ordering the rest as they come out!!!!Dated?Review date: 2007-06-10 Rating: 8 out of 10Well of course it's dated; it meant to be, and great fun it is too!
It's worth buying just to hear those immortal words "Your mission, should you decide to accept it, Mr Briggs ..."
However, there are one or two down-sides. Barbara Bain, though attractive, sometimes comes across in a silly, rather lascivious, unbelievable manner. Also, the earlier episodes, mainly on DVD 1, are rather unsparkling. However, it is worth persisting because the episodes from DVD 2 onwards quickly get into their groove, are gripping, and totally retro!
