The long tradition of family vacation comedies continues in RV, with Robin Williams doing his best to keep things amusing. He succeeds, for the most part, by downplaying his manic persona and settling comfortably into his role as well-meaning husband and father Bob Munro. Determined to combine work and pleasure, Bob rents the titular motor home to drive his wife (Cheryl Hines), teenage daughter (Joanna "JoJo" Levesque) and pre-teen son (Josh Hutcherson) on a scenic vacation in the Colorado Rockies while secretly preparing his presentation for a high-stakes corporate merger. Their dysfunctional road trip leads to repeated encounters with the all-too-happy Gornicke family (led by Jeff Daniels and Kristin Chenoweth), who only appear to be stupid rednecks, when in fact they represent the familial togetherness that Bob is striving to regain. As directed by comedy veteran Barry Sonnenfeld (whose image as "Irv" the RV rental king is plastered across the side of the Munro's RV), these warm-and-fuzzy sentiments are strictly by-the-numbers, along with plenty of jokes about raw sewage, scavenging raccoons, and RVs run amuck. There aren't any real highlights, and the outcome is utterly predictable, but RV delivers enough comedy to qualify as an enjoyable diversion. Those who remember Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz in Vincente Minnell's 1954 hit The Long, Long Trailer may find RV similarly entertaining. --Jeff Shannon

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!
Probably the best movie I EVER watched, loads of funny bits, including buisness with dumping sewage, the RV saying "Rent Me!" on the side, getting stuck on a mountain of rock, rv rolling into the lake, running over cars, red "bus" with musical horn etc etc.

If You Like Camping, You'll Hate This Movie
Review date: 2008-06-04 Rating: 2 out of 10

The Munro family used to be close. But then the kids grew up. Now father Bob (Robin Williams) is committed to his job always worried that his demanding boss will fire him for a younger, better motivated model. Teen daughter Cassie (Joanna "JoJo" Levesque) wants nothing to do with her uncool father. And pre-teen son Carl (Josh Hutcherson) is going through a gangster phase. All this leaves mom Jamie (Cheryl Haines) just trying to hold everything together.

The family is looking forward to starting their summer with a vacation to Hawaii, but that changes when Bob's boss Todd (Will Arnett) demands he lead a meeting in Colorado in the middle of the trip. Instead of explain the situation to his family, he rents a motor home and bills it as a family bonding time. To say the rest of the family is reluctant is putting it mildly. To make matters worse, Bob knows nothing about the monster he's rented. Will they survive the trip to Colorado? Can Bob work without his family knowing?

Do I care? The answer, honestly, was no. I grew up camping, so the premise of the movie appealed to me. But the movie didn't deliver. Instead of reminding me of warm memories, I was annoyed by all the snipping the characters did at each other. While the ending was predictable from the first few moments, it was too abrupt for my tastes.

The film is also filled with physical comedy. I mean bathroom humor. I was constantly cringing at the things that Bob faced.

Then there's the stereotypical family the Munros meet along the way as lead by Jeff Daniels and Kristin Chenoweth. I found them more obnoxious than the characters I already didn't like.

Frankly, I didn't laugh at this movie once.

And the movie is predictable. While that never bothers me if I am having a good time, I wasn't having a good time here, so every plot point was painfully slow in coming.

If you want a funny family vacation movie look anywhere but here for it. You'll come away from this one highly disappointed.

Modern Day Vacation!
Review date: 2008-05-17 Rating: 8 out of 10

For any one who loved the vacation films, this will do nicely.
This film will suit the whole family fine and has many a good laugh in it and Robin Williams is on fine form.
I personally thought it wouldn't be all that good, but I was wrong, it is maybe a bit slow to get going, but once the film is rolling their are planty of laughs.
Highly Recomended!
