Synopsis
In the mid-21st century, a virus has turned part of the earth's population into hemophages, vampire-like creatures with heightened speed and dexterity, and a fascist government is intent on stamping them out. Enter Violet (Milla Jovovich), a hemophage determined to fight for her people. Her battle takes an unexpected turn, however, when she finds herself protecting Six (Cameron Bright), a mysterious young child who was raised in a lab. Although the artwork in the opening credits would lead you to believe otherwise, writer/director Kurt Wimmer (EQUILIBRIUM) reportedly based ULTRAVIOLET not on a comic book but on John Cassavetes's 1980 film GLORIA, in which a woman must protect a young boy who is carrying some information sought by the Mafia. Tailor-made for young action fans raised on anime and videogames who want nothing more than to see a beautiful heroine leave a path of destruction behind her, ULTRAVIOLET cross-pollinates plot threads from popular franchises like THE MATRIX and UNDERWORLD. Creating a brightly hued, soft-focus environment constructed entirely with CGI and a green screen, ULTRAVIOLET's look is much like SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW. Cementing the reputation she established with similar athletic, minimally clothed roles in THE FIFTH ELEMENT and the RESIDENT EVIL films, Jovovich will go down in the books as a sci-fi femme fatale for the ages. Her Ultraviolet--who inexplicably changes her hair colour and outfits seemingly at will--is a lethal melding of Morticia Adams at a rave and KILL BILL's Bride. Pulling off moves that clearly demonstrate the training she underwent for the role, and usually with a bare midriff, she gives her fans plenty to enjoy. Wimmer wisely leaves the door open for further adventures in the saga.
Weird film with great fight scenes
Review date: 2008-08-31 Rating: 8 out of 10
Ultraviolet is a weird film but weird in a good way. The plot consists of a group of vampire-like people called hemophages are endangered from becoming extinct due to humans but they might be able to live if they kill a child named Six (Cameron Bright).
A hemophage named Violet (Milla Jovovich) is sent to retrive the case that Six is in but due to her motherly instincts, runs away with Six and the film consists of fights between Violet, humans and hemophages.
The story is confusing but the film is still entertaining and if you like lots of action, then Ultraviolet is a good film choice.

Dont Waste Your Life On This Review date: 2008-07-23 Rating: 2 out of 10Dont Buy it Dont Even Rent it if some one offers to let you borrow it say no. its for your own good.... trust me!There is almost NO Detail in the PictureReview date: 2008-07-18 Rating: 4 out of 10This is an okay (not great) futuristic style film, but only 84 minutes long, in the style of Aeon Flux/The Matrix. But unlike those films, this film is let down by the fact that they have used computers to remove nearly all details from the picture. There's more detail in cartoons. What you see is what you getReview date: 2008-07-06 Rating: 10 out of 10This film feels like a music video throughout. The fighting rarely stops and every step appears choreographed. Colours are oversaturated and you can't accuse this film of not using enough CGI either :D
All in all this is exactly what you can guess from looking at the DVD cover & back, and it excels in those categories rather than disappoint. Milla Jovovich plays similar to how she played in the Resident Evil characters, if sleeker, and all in all I supremely enjoyed this film.
Yes, I like intricate storylines, and yes this film does not really contain those. Perhaps the cartoon it was based on does, but ultimately it doesn't matter. This is pure visual entertainment, a joy to watch from beginning to end.
You'll only be disappointed if you against better judgement expect this film to be something it isn't. You cannot blame a beautiful snake for having no legs and thus being a disappointing lizard...OH MY REALLY STUPIDReview date: 2008-06-19 Rating: 2 out of 10Ok, now where do i begin. I actually think this film had a great deal of potential, it could have been an action packed adventure about Milla jacovish (something like that) and her race of vampire like people trying to fight back and survive being hunted by the government.
But no she finds a little kid and then for the rest of the film kills everyone and anyone trying to protect this little test tube baby.
What the hell its just stupid how many people she kills including most of her own people, the good guys. its just ridiculous.
ok the action scenes are quite good and th film looks very nice with good effects but its just so stupid.
