First things first - is Ghost towns as good as Most Haunted? The answer is no. Although Derek is possessed more frequently in this programme than in the other (and the producers probably think this is a good thing) it must be said that actual paranormal events are thin on the ground and poorly recorded. Most Haunted had the benefit of replays, where the viewer was clearly shown or listened to recorded phenomena. In Ghost Towns there are no such replays so the viewer needs to used the DVD player controls to actually go back to what was recorded and even then much of what was recorded is nothing exceptional. Bumps and bangs are easy for the crew to hear but not for the viewer.
Derek is accompanied by Angus Purden and Daniella Westbrook in each investigation. The most memorable moments occur when Derek is possessed and Angus is so scared that he screams and runs away. Daniella is much more robust.
For some reason a sequence filmed in a hotel in Blackpool is played twice in one episode. Either its just a filler or very shoddy editing. For fans of Derek Acorah (of which I am one) this is a must and it is great to see the nicest man on T.V. still working.
