Amazon.co.uk Review

Two Pints Of Lager & A Packet Of Crisps features the sex-fuelled lives of five late-teens/early twenty-somethings in the northern town of Runcorn. Janet is going out with Jonny, his best friend Gaz has started to date Janet's best friend Donna, and self-centred student Louise just wants a job to keep her in cigarettes. There's also Donna's sarcastic mother, Flo, constantly nagging her daughter to take up a 'proper' relationship with a worthy young man. Storylines followed the on-again/off-again relationships of the young protagonists who have lots of sex and meet in pubs.
After the first series the show was initially broadcast on BBC Choice and its successor BBC3. The second series was shown by terrestrial BBC2 from 12 August to 16 September 2002, the third from 7 July to 15 September 2003, the musical special on 10 May 2004 and the fourth series from 17 May to 19 July 2004.
The show's title was inspired by the 1980 hit single 'Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps Please' by "Splodgenessabounds".

Strangling comedy until it turns blue and dies
Review date: 2008-04-22 Rating: 2 out of 10

It's a pity that the BBC licence fee is squandered on programmes as poor as this, 'Two Pints...' is comedy in its most basic form. I'm not saying we should all be watching re-runs of Fawlty Towers every night, there are plenty of great comedies out there. Anyone with an interest in British comedy will hopefully agree that 'Two Pints...' with its gaudy sets, dire dialogue and irritating characters does nothing for BBC or for comedy. Seeing this box-set of 6 series of 'Two Pints...' makes me feel sad for light entertainment, why doesn't 'Two Pints...' migrate to ITV where it belongs, along side 'Rock Rivals', 'Moving Wallpaper' and 'Hardware'.

Why do the BBC continue with this drivel?

This show is so unbelievably feeble it is incomprehensible that it ever got made and staggering that anyone would buy it on DVD.

Extraordinary comedy

Rarely has a comedy divided opinion so completely. You either like it or hate it, but this is nothing to do with the writing or comedic timing which, by any objective measure, are excellent. It is down to whether you like the characters or their earthiness. There are strong parallels with 'Til Death Us Do Part' which caused similar controversy 40 years ago. This is in the same mould and is genuinely novel. If unfamiliar with the material you MUST watch episodes on BBC3 before committing to purchase. However, if you like it you will love it and the only reviews that matter are the positive ones. I wish I had discovered this wonderful comedy earlier - and I am not a student in my 20s but a middle-aged professional.

Its on'ly a comedy

As a twentysomething I thought I would write a review. I discoverd Two pints.... during my university years. To be honest if the repeats hadn't been shown on BBC3 late at night I would have gone insane when doing late night work. I can understand that some people may not like this show, thats their opinion just as I probably don't like what they watch (I switch programs like The office off within the first 30seconds). I like programs that are easy to watch, don't make you stressed, that you can relax, unwind too and have a good laugh!

Like I said if you are a twentysomething then you will "get" this show and be able to relate to it. If you are older but still in touch with your youthful days you will find it funny to relate to topics that ypu probably also agonised over when you were the characters ages and if you're younger you will probably want to espire NOT to be like the characters lol. But it kept me going at uni, me and my friends often breaking into songs form the musical episode when Jonny met Janet.

If I could afford the box set I would buy it. Yes, watch a few episodes before you commit, I agree as its not for everyone but if you like easy to watch and laugh at comedy then this is for you.

Two pints of lager and a packet of ...I dunno!

I just don't get Two pints, which is fine, each to his own and all that, but my main complaint is the virtual stranglehold this programme has on the Beeb's late night schedules. So sorry fans, for the poor star rating, but if I don't find it funny I'm not going to say otherwise. And by the way Mr Butler, don't say people don't have a sense of humour just because they laugh at different things than you. I am quite willing to accept the fact that you and many others DO find this funny. It just so happens that I and equally many others don't. As long as we're laughing at something it can't be all bad can it?
