Amazon.co.uk Review

Even though her career pinnacle may now be getting the British Prime Minister to utter her catchphrases on television, there's much gold to be found in this Catherine Tate, which brings together the first two series of her popular sketch show.

The format of the programme is fairly traditional, as Tate lends her writing and performance magic to a broad spectrum of characters. The headliners, of course, are the foul-mouthed Nan (and new viewers be warned, she's a very foul mouthed Nan!) and Lauren the schoolgirl, replete with her impenetrable chav-talk and infamous "Bovvered" catchphrase. But plenty of other delights lie beneath the surface, and while some elements of The Catherine Tate Show drag on a little past their welcome, there are umpteen laughs to be had in this set.

To some extent, The Catherine Tate Show has lived in the shadow of the other sketch show of the moment, the wildly popular Little Britain. But that's unfair. Tate has plenty up her sleeve to give Messrs Lucas and Walliams a run for their money, and frequently does. A little bit more work on the script editing could really make the difference.

But for now, The Catherine Tate Show has far more going for it than it has problems, and the delights across the two series packaged together here more than justify the asking price. Even Tony Blair is likely to agree…--Jon Foster

Nan and Lauren are the BEST

My family and I found that Nan and Lauren are the best parts of the Catherine Tate Show most other parts are not really funny at all! Would love to see a DVD out full of Nan and Lauren!!

Catherine Tate's ascension to fame has been rapid but definitely well-deserved. Her sketch show features an eclectic collection of comedy creations; from Cockney Nan to the rather outspoken schoolgirl, Lauren, Tate's characters are all the more funny because they remind us of people in everyday life. The second series of THE CATHERINE TATE SHOW improves upon the foundations laid out in the first, proving why the comedienne ranks as one of the funniest people currently on television. Contains every episode from the first and second series.

Much better than little britain where are these bad reviews coming for? Absoulutley the show, she's so talented series 3 is good aswell.
Two thums way up

Unexpected great fun

Received this as a gift from a friend in London when he was visiting in New York. Pretty much the way I view American TV (some dreadful, some wonderful)I have a wide range of reactions to British Tv - Love: Ab Fab, Queer As Folk, Monty Python; Like sometimes: Fawlty Towers, Dr. Who; Dislike: most of the so-called Brit-coms we get in America; Initially liked, but then really grew to dislike: Little Britain. So, I didn't know what to expect from Ms. Tate. I found myself quickly taken in by the subtlty underneath the broad humor. Each character is built upon so very many tiny yet important details. The characters were not all at the same level, but each still brought laughter. Sketch comedy is hard, and if done badly you get Saturday Night Live. But Catherine Tate knows humanity. She knows how to dissect a character and bring it to life. I am so glad we got this set. I look forward to seeing where she will go next.

Piffle!!

Absolute and utter tosh. Not funny whatsoever. Anyone who finds this remotely funny needs to get a reappraisal of what the phrase "I have a good sense of humour" actually means. Seriously, if a comedy legacy can be earned from idiotic phrases like "Am I bovvered" and pathetic characters trying to be funny, well it's the end of western civilization as we know it. Really....

Am I bovvered? Oh Deary Me!!

Comedy for people who think repeating the same thing over and over and over and over and over again is funny. Lazy comedy, no thought really given in presentation or delivery just the same old boring rubbish, it's not even funny, just dull. I gave up after the first couple of episodes on TV and had the misfortune to see a few more through no fault of my own. The comedic answer to a dentists drill - AVOID.
