Nostalgic and still funny.
Review date: 2008-08-04 Rating: 6 out of 10
Having bought both series this is definitely the funnier. Though it has the same characters and similar situations it is less sanitised than series two. George A. Cooper as the driven to distraction father in particular, gives a very funny portrayal of comic rage; "I'll knock your bloody head clean off your bloody shoulders!". It's a well cast team effort with good performances all round, particularly Colin Jeavons as Shadrack the undertaker.
If you want to watch some nostalgic, enjoyable and still funny Seventies comedy you could do a lot worse than this.

A poor imitation of the filmReview date: 2006-12-18 Rating: 2 out of 10Please don't buy this! It's not a patch on the film. It really is a good lesson in how not to write comedy, it's got very annoying stereotypical characters in it, [Billy's Dad for one] some dreadful storylines and poor acting. The 70's are awash with good comedy, [Steptoe, Fawlty Towers, Porridge, Open All Hours etc etc] so buy those instead. Highly EnjoyableReview date: 2006-09-27 Rating: 8 out of 10I am a hugh fan of the film of the same name but I really didn't know what to expect when I bought this DVD, I was suprised at how much I enjoyed it.
The only TV show I have seen Jeff Rawle in is Drop The Dead Donkey, and he is perfect as Billy - the bone idle daft lad who dreams his life away.
The other cast members are equally suited to their roles, especially George A Cooper who plays Billy's long suffering father.
Unlike most comedy shows of the 1970's Billy Liar has stood the test of time and should be enjoyed by people of all ages.
