Faithfull to roddenberry's vision
Review date: 2008-10-16 Rating: 8 out of 10
Andromeda was a series created using some of G.Roddenberry's notes from the 70's epecially the pilot "Genesis II". To this they added many star trek traits. True its theme and story are weak compared to star trek TOS, TNG AND DS9, or other series like Babylon 5 ,it is more simplistic and naive. But at least it does have a theme and story to tell and a message to send a message faithfull to roddenberry's optimism and utopian vision of the future. It is not technobubble like Voyager neither the adventures of some heroic humans fighting alien monsters as in Stargate. It has great visual effects and good acting. There are ofcourse some major scientific incosistencies, for example you can not escape from a black hole, but don't forget that this also the case of many other sci-fi series (like the transporters in star trek). All and all it's good to watch it.

From Greatness to Unmitigated RUBBISH in Five Easy StagesReview date: 2008-07-12 Rating: 4 out of 10First of all, `Andromeda' wasn't CREATED by Gene Roddenberry, it was pieced together after his death from the dozens of ideas and concepts that he had noted down. But whilst the first two series showed a great deal of potential, once Captain Dylan Hunt had managed to restore the Commonwealth, the whole series plummeted into the same kind of clichéd `Black & White, Good vs. Evil' rubbish that ruined the original series of `Star Trek.'
From the beginning of the pilot episode, Dylan Hunt was the great hero and hope for the future who had left everyone he'd ever loved behind.
He used reason, logic and compassion as weapons, turning the villains own plans against them. But after the storyline with his late wife was concluded in series three, Hunt almost literally became the illegitimate son of Captain Kirk, solving every problem with violence and having sex with any woman who breathed.
When `Rev Bem' left the series, the programme lost almost all of its depth and its ethical conscience. And when Tyr Anastasi abandoned the Andromeda at the end of series three, the warning bell rang for all intelligent science fiction fans that there was now a black hole in the middle of the series that nothing else was ever going to fill.
Sure enough, by the beginning of series four, Andromeda had degenerated into the mindless, soulless, unimaginative and clichéd type of programme that millions of fans adore because it doesn't tax their brains.
They don't want ambiguity and emotional dilemmas, they want `Cool Explosions, Bright, Pretty Colours and for the Good Guys to Win in the End.' And so if you're a fan of the first two series and believe that series three `had its moment,' then I would recommend renting the fourth and fifth series before you decide whether or not to buy.
Quite simply AWESOME !!Review date: 2008-04-10 Rating: 10 out of 10This is amazingly cheap and is truely an awesome series, compelling and well acted and put together, the girls obviously are beautiful especially nearer the end of the series

A Good Show, but the Writers futsed it up Review date: 2008-03-23 Rating: 6 out of 10First of all let me begin by saying that when it started Andromeda was a great show, much like another postumous Roddenberry Creation (Earth the Final Conflict)however, by the third Season the writers had screwed up, deciding not to continue the story arcs that season 1 and 2 had begun to set up.
Then half way through season 4 they brought them back aou tof nowhere. The acting was great with the exception of Keith Hamilton Cobb in the fourth season, he just wasn't Tyr to me anymore and what was with the ever changing Trance, forst she was Purple Pixie Goddess of my Heart, then she was Trance Warrior Chick - MEOW! Then she became Sweet Innocent, innocent - Schizophrenic Trance.
The show was good but in later seasons suffered from a number of problem, the least of which was Danny Boy knocking Lexa up! But still it had good storys and idea, though some weren't original A DAFT ROMP INTO SPACE FOR THE CREW OF THE ANDROMEDA.Review date: 2008-01-23 Rating: 4 out of 10This series starring Kevin Sorbo (aka Hurcules) as Captain Dylan Hunt of the last Commonwealth starship Andromeda. The ship is caught on the event horizon of a black hole thus leaving him and the ship in suspended animation for 300 years. The ship is then dragged out by Beka Valentine captain of an old cargo freighter. Dylan is joined by various different crew members over the rather long and drawn out 5 seasons. One point in the story which stays in the mind is that, even though the Andromeda is 300 years old. It seems that technology has stagnated in that period and the ship is still more powerful than anything else in the new century ?. I find this very hard to swallow even for a rather brain dead sci-fi like this. The writing and acting leave alot to be desired and lacks any pace and seems at best to ramble along. The effects are not that good but i do like the design of the Andromeda as it makes a Star Trek ship look like a toaster !. Im suprised that it lasted even five series but the female cast make this worth watching if nothing else !. I might buy this though if it were selling for £30 just as it's another sci-fi to watch on a wet sunday afternoon !.
