If you read Pappy book ...
Review date: 2008-07-05 Rating: 10 out of 10
This series is a good TV rappresentation of the spirit of the book.
Marine Fighter Squadron 214 was really formed by discharged pilot from others "more disciplinated" units. Maj Boyngton was really a magnificent fighter pilot (awarded with Medal of Honour) but he was really a "screwball", with very little predisposition for "conventional" discipline or respect for superiors or authorities. And Robert Conrad is perfect for the role.
A good movie, with true F4 Corsairs and "near" true Zeroes and Mitsubishi planes. But is always a film, with stories perhaps "a little" romanced, but well depicted.
If you like warmovies is a good "old fashion" series.

Fairly tastless and very proposterous tall talesReview date: 2007-11-17 Rating: 2 out of 10This series requires that you believe that a bunch of ill disciplined, drunken, inexperienced pilots could form the best fighter squadron in the Pacific. Flying all kinds of exotic missions with great success.
There is no genuine drama or comedy, nor is there anything of historic interest. Drunkeness, womanising, disobedience and violoence are portrayed as virtues.
I can't think of a single thing to recommend about this series to anyone. It is dull nonsense from start to finish.
