Amazon.co.uk Review
Despite a likable cast of humans, it's the canine stars who steal the show in Eight Below, a terrific live-action adventure in the time-honored Disney tradition. Based on a true story that was previously filmed (much differently) as the 1983 Japanese hit Antarctica, this above-average family film takes place in 1993 and focuses on a dog-sled guide at an Antarctic research station (Paul Walker) who is forced by a severe storm to abandon eight beloved sled dogs for the duration of a harsh Antarctic winter. Left to fend for themselves, the rugged and resourceful dogs encounter danger at every turn, surviving for nearly six months while Walker and his closest colleagues (engagingly played by Bruce Greenwood, Moon Bloodgood, and American Pie's Jason Biggs) join forces to mount a daring rescue mission. Having endured similarly extreme conditions on his 1993 film Alive, director Frank Marshall brings an abundance of natural splendor (and minimum use of digital wizardry) to spectacularly arctic locations in Norway, Greenland and Canada, and Walker (star of The Fast and the Furious) lends an amiable sincerity to his compassionate role. For most viewers, however, it's the remarkable dogs (six Siberian huskies and two malamutes) who make Eight Below so thoroughly entertaining. It's not quite an instant family classic, but it comes pretty doggone close. --Jeff Shannon
ahhhh have a hankie ready when you watch it!!!

I was watching a different film on the long flight back from New Zealand but could see EIGHT BELOW on the screen of the man sitting in the row infront of me. I kept being distracted from my film and found myself squinting between the seats and watching the beautiful Huskies and the fantasic scenery on the screen infront, even without sound it looked a fantastic film so when the man finished watching it, I asked him what it was. I then searched for it on my screen, found it and sat spellbound watching it. It's full of hardship, hope and triumph over adversity, one of those sad but happy films that keeps your attention til the end, and you definately need a tissue handy. When it ended, I just watched it all over again, and when I got home it was the first film I bought!!!!

loved this filmReview date: 2007-12-02 Rating: 10 out of 10I absoulety loved this film. i rented it form my local video shop last year and watched it twice in the one day and i cried both times. The huskies take over the show with their story. But with such a great cast i.e. Paul Walker- Fast and Furious, Into the blue: Jason biggs-American Pie 1,2 & 3) you just have to love this film. totally recommended for family viewing, although i'm 24 and watched it on my own!!) A ++++CrackerReview date: 2007-11-05 Rating: 10 out of 10This is one of those under rated movies.
Based on a true story, a guide has to leave his huskies behind when an unexepected injury takes their place on the last plane out before the Antartic winter sets in. The movie is about their struggle to survive the harsh winter.
The movie is excellently filmed and acted, exciting and moving.
Disney at its best.
The extra features on how the movie was made reveals fascinating insights into the life of the working husky.
One for all the family. Very highly recommended.Dogs steal the show from the humansReview date: 2007-09-10 Rating: 8 out of 10You can't help but fall in love with these beautiful dogs. Throughout the movie they fight for their survival while exhibiting team work and compassion for each other. It is almost impossible to hold back the tears while watching the way these wonderful dogs care for one another. The rest of the plot is almost unimportant, other than the fact that the owner of the sled dogs obviously has tremendous love for his loyal and hard working dogs. The film sort of splits into two separate story lines, the dogs alone in Antarctica fighting to survive, and the main human character trying to get back to save the dogs.I would strongly recommend this movie. If your kids are under six I might use caution,as one scene is pretty scary. It's a fun little story that might help a child develop some compassion for animals.
Mind you the actors; Jason Biggs,Paul Walker and the really ravishing Moon BloodGood aren't bad either. FAST AND FURIOUS WITH DOGS !!!Review date: 2007-08-19 Rating: 10 out of 10I sat and watched this with my two little girls and I have to say this was a very good movie. It had the classic Disney bits in the film which makes this a brillant family movie with no bad language to worry about. It was nice to see Paul Walker in a different role to his early films he is becoming now I think a top actor. One problem when the film finished Dad can we have a dog like that you have been warned Mum's and Dad's!!!!
