I can't rate this item, but judging by the reviews of this DVD there is a much better alternative... I bought a different Asian import from an Amazon seller - The Student Prince (1954) - Ann Blyth,Edmund Purdom,John Ericson and was delighted to find that both picture and sound quality are good, the format is 16:9 widescreen and the subtitles can be turned off completely. Received The Student Prince two days after ordering, have just watched and thoroughly enjoyed it was singing along with all my favourite tune, it was in cinemascope but so what after a few moments I didn't even notice it just enjoyed every bit of it a treasure to have,

What a disappointment

This is my favourite musical and I was looking forward to having a more durable format for this as my video of the film is now quite old. What a disappointment! I wasn't expecting fantastic quality given the age of the film and it hadn't been digitally re-mastered, but I was expecting something that was watchable. The picture quality is abissmal. It is blurred, the picture jumps up and down the screen, the colour fades in and out, and you can't turn the subtitles off (which have clearly been written by someone for whom English is not their first language). I bought two copies of this film - one being as a birthday present for my Mum as she is a big Mario Lanza fan. It is of such poor quality I would be embarrassed to give this to my worst enemy, let alone my Mum. The only saving grace and the reason why it gets 1 star is that the sound quality is OK. Don't buy it, you will be wasting your money.
