DVD Description

The Green Wing Series Two DVD sees the return of this critically-acclaimed and award-winning comedy. A genre-defying programme--which proves that medical issues needn't have any actual relevance in a hospital setting--Green Wing could be described as part-surreal soap, part-comedy drama. On the series two DVD, Green Wing's characters face the unenviable task of clearing up the mess they left behind at the end of series one.

Synopsis

Series two of the anarchic and surreal comedy Green Wing follows the escapades of new hospital worker Dr Caroline Todd as she encounters all manner of strange characters. Created by the team behind "Smack The Pony", Green Wing" combines the cream of British comedy actors, inventive use of editing--in which sequences are often sped up and slowed down--and an offbeat sense of humour, to create an unusual and imaginative comedy.

"The best comedy in the world is back in the peak of rude health."

No longer quirky, just a bit annoying
Review date: 2007-12-03 Rating: 6 out of 10

If series one of Green Wing was a stand alone thing, it would be the pride of my DVD collection. I would think it was one of the best things since... well, sliced bread. But despite it being one of the most watched DVDs on my shelf, it is now tainted by its older brothers sat next to it. Series 2 tries very hard to recapture what made Series 1 so groundbreakingly fab; but it is so obvious that they are trying hard - the visual gags, fast forwards and fast editing style are all still there, the jokes are as thick and fast as before. Some scenes are so much funnier than any in the first series, but it doesn't work this time, there is a real feeling that it is contrived and forced. Some bits work better than others, what really switched me off was the constant ups and downs between Caroline and Mac - it was a lovely storyline, but will-they won't-they was fairly tired at the end of series 1.... no episode is complete without an absurd twist in their tale. This stopped being quirky to me and became attention seeking - it was as though a whole new creative group were trying to eminate the first series.

If you are desperate to buy a quirky, fast, hilarious comedy and loved series 1 of Green Wing, buy Spaced, Darkplace or the Boosh before this!!

Surreal genius.
Review date: 2007-08-30 Rating: 10 out of 10

The Green Wing is in my opinion the most brilliant show of the last 5 years. Surreal, witty, silly and insane - it made me laugh non-stop. Every character is funny in vastly different ways. The jokes are original and fresh, the cats perfect and the crazy direction an editing is inspired. However rare it is the have an entire cast be brilliantly funny, from the Surgens to the HR office staff the awared for the funniest character goes to Michelle Gomez for her brilliantly zany Sue White. I'd hate to ruin the brilliant of ever one of her moments, but nobody else could play this part so amazingly well and have you in suc stiches that you have to rewind the entire next scene because you missed it from laughing. Possibly the funniest Sit-com character in years.

Sadly 2 series and 1 special isn't enough Green Wing. I hope the possible spin off does occur but I'd hate to see any character not return. The are all so fantastically funny. A DVD to buy and treasure.

Very good but a bit of a let down.

In a way it pains me to give this DVD only a 3 star rating, yet I feel it is justified when it is compared to its predicessor, series one.

Series One of Green Wing was fantastic, it had moments that had me laughing in hysterics and is still, even over a year after buying it something I love watching. Having recently bought Series 2 I was expecting to once again be buying something I would tressure and re-watch for years to come. I'm sad to say I was rather dissapointed. Series two does have it moments; there were parts that did have me laughing out loud and the trademark 'style' is still there, but in comparison to the magnificent series one it is a let down. If you buy it you won't regret buying it but if you have experianced the first series then it will be a dissapointment.

Something missing - very disappointing

Not a good follow-up. The trademark visual style is still there, as are all the characters but (and whisper it) it wasn't very funny. And often was a bit boring.

Many of the storylines are laboured and lots of the surreal stuff is contrived. There are some amusing moments but you have to wade through some very long episodes (50 minutes each with a lot of padding) for that.

Watch it to make up your own mind but I can't recommend it to buy.

Addictive

Green Wing series 2 was a Christmas present and out of all the various series I was given, Will & Grace 8, Frasier 5, 3 Non Blondes et al. Green Wing 2 probably has made me laugh out loud the most. True, you need a touch of the zany about you to enjoy but there is also something strangely compulsive about this lunatic little world you enter. Where four back to back 30 minute episodes is usually enough for me in one sitting, Green Wing is strangely addictive in longer doses.Mark Heaps genius creation Dr Statham is a triumph, like watching a raw nerve exposed to the sarcastic madness of workaday existence-cruel but wonderful. Great show, great cast.
