Its a shame that this was the last thing Harry Thompson worked on before his untimely death...but he gave us a great parting gift with this.

I know what people think, a sitcom on channel 5 about prostitutes and a largely unknown cast with someone from Hollyoaks to boot? Hardly a winner. I thought like that too, but this is an incredibly underrated gem, that has more depth than your average Zoo and Nuts reader would have noticed...and more fool them.

The setting may lead to some near the knuckle humour but it is laugh out loud when it does and to counterbalance, at its heart, it is a surprisingly tender sweet love story between the lonely and inept Michael (the brilliant Justin Edwards...check him out as Jeremy Lion on youtube, hilarious; or in The Thick Of It) and the young airheaded working girl Hayley (the surprisingly brilliant Jodi Albert formerly of Hollyoaks-which is sportingly mocked on a couple of occasions in the show)The supporting cast is also excellent.

The price on here is amazingly low and I promise you you will consider it one of your better buys.

An unseen gem

Channel Five gets a bad reputation but their sitcoms of the past couple of years have been spot on. Angelo's is about to wrap up and has been excellent this year, while last year we had the heart-warming Respectable.

At its heart this is a platonic love story set within a knocking shop. The relationship between the shy clumsy businessman and the naive prostitute is touching but sometimes painfully embarrassing to watch.

For those pondering a second series - it's unlikely to happen. I've been in touch with Channel 5 a couple of times about this show and they say that the creative team has moved on. Quite definitely in one case. The main writer and creator of the show, Harry Thompson, died before it even got to air.

this is a great little show and im glad the dvd has arrived.
i fisrt watched it on channel 5 if im honest purely for the prospect of jodi albert in a small outfit.
that happens....alot...but on the plus side it was also very,very,very funny with some cracking lines that give a good giggle and atleast one huge laugh out loud moment per show.
the acting is top rate and the humour is surprisingly older in style...almost carry on in style at times.
well worth a look if you dont expect a cheap sustitute for soft core porn!!

This series is a little gem and worth a couple of evenings of anyone's time and at this price you shouldn't miss it. The world is that of `Personal Services' with Julie Walters of a few year's ago but with all due respect to that film (which had its moments) this is much better.

Playing a sex comedy for laughs, as this does brilliantly well, and not for sex (there are lots of dildos/sexy paraphernalia around and rude language but no eroticism) must have been very tricky to do and there were all sorts of situations where things might have drifted into being over-acted but this simply didn't happen. Instead the director (the actor who plays the nemesis to Ricky Gervais's Andy Millman in Extras 2) kept everything very tight. The witty script is genuinely funny and the cast obviously enjoyed their bizarre roles and deliver their dead-pan lines with obvious relish.

My only complaint is that granted the give-away price above a second series looks unlikely. It's a shame for this deserves a second series.

Agree with the comment about the gentle humour ... and there are a couple of good moments ... but these are too thin on the ground to make this watchable beyond the odd episode. A little tedious to try and watch the whole DVD.
