Pure class!
Review date: 2007-08-14 Rating: 10 out of 10
I am convinced that this is the best police drama around and also one of the finest shows on TV. Period. Unfortunately it has now been relegated to an abscure time slot on E4. So treat yourself and buy the box sets. I have Seasons 1-4 so far and they are all worth the money. If you like your drama real then I doubt you will be disappointed. The characters all have their own personalities but they also have what we all have.....little foibles, secrets and flaws. And this makes them seem so much more real and helps you empathise with them. For me it's great stories that don't rely on special effects and multiple bad guys getting shot every episode. It feels like real stories with real people and situations. But it also has all the emotions to go with it. You will feel sad, angry, disappointed, shocked as you get sucked into the world of the 15th precinct. But you will also laugh at the well written humourous situations. For me this is how all shows should be written and acted. Its just pure class.

Timeless tragedyReview date: 2006-09-02 Rating: 10 out of 10NYPD blue is one of just a few shows that manage to stand the test of time. Unhindered by changing fashions, well crafted plots that stretch character arcs not just across episodes but across entire series all brought together by top class acting, this is a show to be returned to with relish and that once bought can be enjoyed again and again.
In season 4 the main people continue to develop, Sipowiscz's defective detective remains grumpy and yet likeable, a fine portrait of a man fighting a losing battle with his own imperfections. His partner Simone remains his complete opposite, easy going and charming and patient.
The chief, (lt. Fancy), struggles to keep a fair balance, the female detectives are fighting for their share of the spoils and poor old Greg remains the resident schmuck,( in this series what he thinks is a promising friendship turns itself on its head and finds him being used),.
The stories are interesting and uncompromising, the attack on a colleague, a detective with 2 wives, spying on the mob, and of course all sorts of murders are intertwined with everybodies lives.
Series 4 is a standout from the previous 3,(all 5 star and superb), because of the finale which while utterly gripping is just so sad, and illustrates so well just how NYPD blue is still the standard set for all cop shows. Sorrow, anger and helplessness are displayed by everyone involved in a completely believable fashion.
I agree with the other reviewers that this is a region 2 con as it is overpriced and slow in getting here for no good reason. so enter region 1 and buy yourself the far more reasonable US version from Amazon and enjoy one of the most complete and well produced television shows ever produced.
This is not a season to leave you with a smile on your face, the total opposite in fact, but thats reality isn't it?Terrific that we are getting the DVDs, shame about the UK being ripped off againReview date: 2006-07-29 Rating: 10 out of 10How I agree with the other reviewer. I was keen to buy the next season soon as it came out, but then I saw the price Amazon UK is charging for it and was shocked at the difference between the UK and US prices. Yet again, the UK gets conned.
It may be even more of a ripoff if the disks in this UK set are double-sided. They were in the US version. I'm hoping they aren't, because I despise double-sided disks with a vengeance. But if they are, then they were even cheaper to make than single-sided disks, so the UK price is even more of a ripoff!
The top rating is for the show, btw, not Amazon's extortionate price.Rip OffReview date: 2006-07-01 Rating: 10 out of 10Can't fault the DVDs but the price?!? The price on Amazon.com is $27.99. Even when you include $6.98 shipping and handling that only works out at £18.92
Add this to the fact that I've had my copy since the end of May and the region 2 version is not available till 14th August AND is over £16 more expensive, "Rip Off" sums up what is going on here.
