Amazon.co.uk Review

If you were one of the many complaining that the ending of the first series of Lost was something of a damp squib, that fear not. Going against the more measured and tempered pacing of what had gone before, the first few episodes of the second season waste little time getting down to business, cleverly setting up a selection of fresh posers to consider. In true Lost fashion, there are more questions asked than questions answered, and the twelve episodes in this box set capture much of the spirit of what’s made the show the success it is.

Continuing the formula of dividing each episode into a flashback and current events, there’s plenty to get your teeth into. Fresh characters are brought in, some more of the Island’s mysteries are discovered, and the relevance of those numbers continues to puzzle. There are some fairly sizeable developments to watch out for too, none of which we’ll spoil for you here.

What’s clear is that the show has very much found its feet. While some episodes frustrate, seemingly moving things on not a jot, there’s a lot of careful layering at work here, and that gives much of the material in this set added rewatch value. And, when the show does hit top form--as it frequently does across these twelve episodes--then it’s highly compelling television. Don’t expect all the answers just yet though, eh?--Jon Foster

I'm Lost!
Review date: 2006-09-10 Rating: 8 out of 10

Lost is a great tv show, no doubt. I love it to bits, and would NEVER miss an episode. What i DO find, however, is that even if one episode is boring, you just know you can't miss the next one because it could be really interesting! Thats what i like about Lost... its keeps you hanging on till the very end! All in all? A great show... i wouldn't miss it for the world!!!

Series rating
Review date: 2006-08-30 Rating: 10 out of 10

Sure enough Lost is compulsive stuff. I've only recently jumped on the bandwagon but can't get enough of it. Never seen any of it on the telly. I think that it would probably annoy the hell out of me having to wait a week at a time for a 'fix' in any case.

Hence I'm renting it on Amazon and did do for the whole of the first series too. Chances are I'll never watch it again which is why the rental scheme is great for me. Its better value and I don't end up with bookshelves full of DVD's gathering dust.

Absolute bargin

Buena Vista helpfully have split Lost season 2 in the UK into 2 handy packages, if you buy them both it costs you £51.98 and part 2 isn't out until October.
The region 1 (US) release comes in 1 package, is out on the 5th of September and at current exchange rates (30th Aug @ 9:00) costs you £20.44
Thanks for proving rip-off Britain doesn't exist, never mind we keep paying for it and they will keep charging it.
The series is really good but there's no way it justifies that level of overcharging.

Great first time
Review date: 2006-07-18 Rating: 6 out of 10

I watched the entirety of season 2, and overall, its great. The season finale will have you gasping for more. And things get weirder and even more perplexing.

But this is not the point. If you are considering buying part 1 of season 2 there are a number of things to consider. Firstly certain episodes tend to be more relevant than others, second, the series moves painstakingly slowly. And thirdly, and most importantly, the 'rewatchableness' of LOST is close to being non-existent.

If you buy any lost box set you will fly through the episodes the first time and want to know more and buy part 2, but I doubt you will watch it again and that's why it only gets three stars. Not because it isn't compelling and perplexing, but rather its only great the first time around.

Rip off
Review date: 2006-07-15 Rating: 6 out of 10

Whilst I totally love the series Lost I think this box set is a complete rip off (which is why I'm giving this just 3 stars). Why pay this much for just half a series??? Import it from over the water and get the complete series for much less (you'll need a multi-region player though, they're dirt cheap on Amazon).

The complete series 2 comes out in the USA on September 5th, shop around, I've found it for less money than this rubbish 'Part 1' set.
