Is this Wide Screen (Letterbox) or "Pan & Scan?"
Review date: 2008-04-14 Rating: 10 out of 10

Please, someone who has this PAL version DVD, tell me what the Aspect Ratio is? Or just, is it Wide Screen or not? I own the NTSC DVD and it's not Wide Screen, but "Pan & Scan" Full Screen. Before I spend for this PAL version, I'd like to know.

Very Much Thanks.

Surprisingly good

Nice to see a R2 release. A fascinating sixties romp, with a quality soundtrack, irreverant storyline and plenty of Swinging London atmosphere. Despite the lengthy production and Ringo Starr having to divide his time between shooting and playing his part in the break up of the biggest band in the world, the resulting film is greater than the sum of its parts would suggest and far better than its reputation, but in no way can Ringo pass himself off as an actor.

A warning from the 60s
Review date: 2008-01-14 Rating: 10 out of 10

This film was made in the 1960s and was then a brilliant and witty warning about what greed and consumerism does to people. As expected, the present society far exceeded the script-writer's expectations. This is actually a very profound film although viewers can be forgiven for looking at it simply as a great comedy. Very well acted and an absolute classic. Pity that it appears to have been largely forgotten. Should be included in the top 100 must-watch films.

A sixties gem

This is a wonderful, clever and very funny sixties film. Lots of splendid cameo roles by people like Spike Milligan and Raquel Welsh. It's basically about the lengths people will go to for money. Peter Sellers plays Sir Guy Grand, a millionaire who likes playing tricks on the vain, greedy and pompous souls of the world. He needs to find an honest 'son' to inherit his wealth, and in steps Ringo, a down and out beggar, with a good heart. There is a fab soundtrack by Badfinger, and lots of lovely location shots around London in 1969. If you like Raquel Welsh, this is a must - she plays a dominatrix on a slave galley ship!! Ringo is great - he was a natural actor. IT must have been good for him to escape from the Let It Be sessions to come and film this!!!

Brilliant , Brilliant, Brilliant!

Disregard the bad reviews. Sellers is excellent here, one of his best. Ringo is natural and charmingly irresistible. John Cleese is also on board for a short segment and in top form. Plus you have Roman Polanski, Yul Brenner, a great Badfinger soundtrack and a bizarre story with multi-layered social comment. Actually this film is quite psychedelic and if you are a fan of Python, Perrin, Fawlty, Sellers, the Fabs etc, this film is essential..And one of the best endings of all time...
