It deserves more than 5 stars

G.B.H. is, quite simply, the finest drama series ever produced. Every single second of it is captivating, the acting is of the highest order with Robert Lindsey giving the performance of his career and Michael Palin doing likewise, clearly realising he was never going to get anything as good as this again. The are so many fantastic and memorable characters who are all played superbly and the music also plays a vital part, being very dramatic and almost portentous sounding, emphasising the 'epic' nature of the series. The balance between drama and comedy is masterfully done, and some of the scenes in here are the funniest I've ever seen anywhere, particularly the scene where Lindsey gets beaten up by his brother at the side of a road and is mistaken for Dirty Den by a passing coach driver, and the famous scene where he has a nervous breakdown in a hotel trying to find some condoms while in the midst of a Doctor Who convention. I could rave all day about how brilliant this programme is, but I'll just finish by saying that you won't regret buying this and you'll certainly never forget it. Drama dosen't get any better than this.

I doubt there'll be many reviews at less than 5 stars.Review date: 2007-12-27 Rating: 10 out of 10Every now and again I used to find myself checking for the existence of GBH on DVD... until, just before Christmas, I found it on Amazon and got it ordered just in time to be one of our lass's Christmas presents. I do admit that really I bought it so I could see it again, but I know she'll enjoy it as well because it's brilliant.
The characters are so involved, so well portrayed, so intense - the plot is complex but followable and the screenplay is excellent - with dark bits, real drama and side-splitting humour.
I can't believe it's been so long since I first saw this on late night TV. This will be going into the DVD player sometime soon and I believe it won't have lost anything with age. I'll refrain from going into the characters, situations and plots in detail - this review is more about how pleased I am to see this finally being offered on DVD and I hope others will find their way to GBH.PeerlessReview date: 2007-10-26 Rating: 10 out of 10
This series was burned into my memory & to find that it has (finally) been released on dvd is a dream come true.
This was first broadcast in 1991 but reflects Britain at the height of Thatcherism in the mid 80's. It really delivers on a number of levels, satire, social comment, superb acting as well as an overall fine piece of TV drama.
When the first couple of episodes appeared on our screens, Derek Hatton said that GBH stood for "Good Bye Hatton" as if Michael Murray was portraying him!
It's worth a look if only to see Robert Lindsay give the performance of his career in this series but don't just read these reviews, go & watch it! Superb dramaReview date: 2007-07-24 Rating: 10 out of 10Michael Palin shoud try more straight drama, he is just so good. There is such good acting all round in this. I found it very moving at the end; Lindsay Duncan's parting words to the character, Michael Murray are poignant. One of the bestReview date: 2007-02-25 Rating: 10 out of 10Beloved by Doctor Who fans, fans of political drama, comedy fans, drama fans - this is outstanding. I'm typing this after watching a More 4 repeat. Really - just get it.
