To my shame I gave the first series of spaced 4 stars. It should have been five. This is a very enjoyable, witty sitcom. and I can now say with all confidence it matches The Office and Fawlty Towers (and Phoenix Nights)...YOU MUST WATCH THIS SERIES !!!!!!

More SpaceReview date: 2007-06-14 Rating: 8 out of 10After the first series Edgar Wright went absolutely bananas sending up movies for the second, and in someways he fails because not only does the story almost end up becoming secondary priority but some of the pastiches are also a little too obvious, over-explained and in some cases even ham-fisted. Its like Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg want to make sure none of the in-gags go over our heads, but they end up spoiling the fun; "They got here just before you did" says Brian at one point, and the line immediately rang a bell, but then - in an instant -Pegg follows up with "You Lando", and the work was done for me. Small potatoes maybe - but it all adds up and makes for a less enjoyable experience. Many of the gags outstay their welcome too, the intial Phantom Menace joke was class but got stale quickly on repeated cash-ins. Ditto, the Matrix characters; funny at first but they quickly get a bit embarrassing...like a friends joke home movie. Maybe its that the films pastiched here are more contemporary and are getting a little dated themselves...so the jokes just arent so funny. If anything the first three epiodes of Spaced 2 seem more amaeturish and derivative than anything from the first...really surprising and a little bit disappointing too.
Fortunately things really improve in the final four episodes and, with the story taking much more a front seat, the in-jokes start to make much more sense. The penultimate episodes Empire Strikes Back joke was class and the final episode will leave you wanting more and feeling that life isnt quite the same without Tim, Daisy, Mike and Brian. But maybe thats a good thing.
Equally brilliant follow up to superb first seriesReview date: 2007-04-03 Rating: 10 out of 10'Spaced' is now considered a cult classic and would probably receive more widespread acknowledgement if it ever reached a larger audience. The second, and what is likely to prove the final, run of this terrific comedy picks up with Daisy returning from travelling and Tim wrestling with post-Phantom Menace myopia (just wait for the scenes where Tim apes Luke Skywalker as he burns all his Star Wars gear and verbally bashes a kid for wanting a Jar Jar Binks toy- I was nearly sick with laughter!) Though I would love to see at least a special of this great show, it does end on a high, and while at its' peak, which I think more comedies would be wise to observe.
As I mentioned in my previous review of Series 1, I think the film/ pop culture references become even more inventive, culminating in a brilliant Jurassic Park spoof involving Tim's long-term love rival, Duane Bancy, and a bunch of Romford chavs. However, I can't say that Series 2 is better than 1 or vice versa as they are both simply hilarious. What both series do so consistently and so well is set up situations and then deliver the jokes with perfect comic timing. So from this point of view, they are as strong as each other.
Look, skip to the end and buy both!BrilliantReview date: 2006-11-11 Rating: 10 out of 10Do you like your comedy rather off the wall? Do you like comedies like Shaun Of The Dead, Big Train & Green Wing? If the answer is "Yes," then Spaced (both series 1 & 2) is quite simply the funniest & most addictive comedy series EVER written.
