This production parades itself as being part of the WB Superman: The Animated Series universe by using the same logo, character designs, and some of the same voice talent... But this film is far from it.
I would compare this more to the Superfriends era type storytelling, and i like Superfriends much better. The character of Lex Luthor is goofy and comical - not the cold, calculating s.o.b that we've all come to expect from S:TAS.
There is not much story here. Brainiac arrives, and mayhem ensues. Superman has to stop him, and that's pretty much it. It's a product rather than a movie, i think, produce purely to capitalize on the release of Superman Returns... It could've been really good, but it's just not.
The younger audience will no doubt enjoy this romp for what it is - an action palooza, so if your kid digs Superman this film is not going to be a waste of money, but from my point of view - as an adult who loves the series - this film is not worth my money.
This is such a sad way to end the animated Superman franchise, and with Tim Daly on the cast as Superman, it's just that more sad. :(
