This spoof series invites you to see a 'long lost' 1980s TV chiller from acclaimed novelist, Garth Marenghi. With hammy acting and a ridiculously shoddy filmmaking technique, Garth Marenghi's Darkplace makes for seriously funny viewing. Garth Marenghi's Darkplace was originally filmed in the 1980s and has since earned a cult reputation as one of the most terrifying and radical television programmes ever made. Despite this, none of the episodes have ever been seen before now (although the show enjoyed a brief run in Peru). Darkplace was scripted and directed by the best-selling horror writer Garth Marenghi, known to thousands as the author of such classic chillers as "The Ooze" (can water die?), "Afterbirth" (a mutated placenta attacks Bristol) and "Black Fang" (where rats learn to drive). In addition, Marenghi starred as the show's lead character, Dr Rick Dagless--a maverick doctor battling against the evil forces lurking beneath a hospital in Romford. Even now, Garth warns that the show, in its effort to "radicalise men's minds", may prove "too subversive, too dangerous, too damn scary." The wait for the most famous 'lost' project in horror goes on, but not for much longer...

Spoof of the horror series from the 70s
It may be an acquired taste for some, but I found this series very very funny.
Funny enough to trace down and buy the DVD just for the extras.

This is absolutly hilarious. The attention to details is brilliant. I got this on an "People who like this will like that" type Amazon recommendation by searching the Mighty Boosh so possibly this is also a niche market although it appeals to my sense of humour perfectly. This is a forgotten gem which I am amazed I had never heard of before.

Let's get this out the way: (a) I'm European, (b) I realize it's a spoof, (c) I've seen lots of the kind of dodgy 80s horror films that this is supposed to be spoofing.
I didn't watch this on C4 but I'm afraid I did buy it as a result of an Amazon recommendation.
Oh dear.
I struggled through two and a half episodes and I really couldn't see what was supposed to be funny about this. It is an actual low budget, badly written horror with the jokes left out.
2/5 because given the large cult following on the 'net obviously some people find it funny ...
