Synopsis

From the creators of Father Ted and The Office comes this, the first series of The IT Crowd, the popular British sitcom that’s taking the country by storm. Roy and Moss toil in the squalid basement of a huge company, fielding IT help-desk calls. Roy has a lousy attitude coupled with an eye for the ladies, while Moss is dressed by his mother and has an aerosol can of water clipped to his belt with which to spray his ear when it gets hot. Into their life of `users`, pizza, science fiction and firewalls comes middle manager Jen, a punky can-do career gal who doesn`t know one end of laptop from the other.

Humor for everyone but a must-have for nerds.

The IT Crowd is a fresh take on sitcom. Most of it takes place in the basement of a large company where the IT department resides, consisting of the two uber nerds Moss and Roy and their boss Jen. I find the humor to be very broad and have something for everyone. There's Moss' and Roy's awkwardness with other people and women in particular, there' Jen having "a visit from Aunt Irma", lots of jokes on working in an office at a large company. And the list goes on. It seems that a lot of people can appreciate this show. But computer nerds should appreciate it in particular because it contains lots of small references and nods to rather nerdy computer stuff.

Ok, that's enough about the actual show. If you, like me, grew up with computer games in the 80's and early 90's this DVD is worth it's money for the effort they put in to the DVD menus alone. I won't spoil all the fun but all the different menus shows adaptions of old games for 8 bit computers. In these adaptions the protagonist has been replaced with some character from the show and the things that happen contain reference to what happens in the various episode. It's absolutely brilliantly made and a fantastic tribute to the old games for 8 bit computers.

There's another thing with this DVD that only nerds will appreciate. It turns out the are two tracks of subtitles, English and 1337. If you didn't understand the last word of the last sentence then this feature is probably not for you. But if you recognize it I can tell you that it is totally hilarious. Not only have they changed the letters of the subtitles but they changed the jargon completely and sometimes even the meaning. The 1337 subtitles are just packed with references to various old games and nerd movies. I'm absolutely flabbergasted by how much time they must have spent on this.

So, if you like humor you will like this show. If you're a nerd this DVD is an absolute must-have.

The only problem with this DVD? There are only six episodes in this season. I wish they would have made more.

Bored with sit-coms ?
Not seen anything new in a while ?
Well I think this is a fantastic fresh comedy with 3 new characters that are very very lost and end up working together in the basement of a big corporation biulding.
It could have worked a lot better without the background laughs , that ruins it a bit sometimes.

Love this show

I managed to get all my friends hooked after buying this dvd. It took a while but they were roaring with laughter by the end. Its very funny with some fantastic performances from Richard Ayoade who i already knew from The Mighty Boosh and Chris O'Dowd is brilliant as Roy and Jen played by Katherine Parkinson has a perfectly balanced humour against the boys. Noel Fielding is probably the best cameo in the whole show..so more of him please. Definately recommend to everyone who has the abilty and wish to laugh.

Hilarious. Nothing like an IT Department.

If you enjoyed such comedies as "Green Wing", "Black Books", and "Spaced", you'll definately enjoy this show. The character's are amusing, and the satire - though nothing special or original - is presented well and never fails to make me laugh. I think the shortness of the episodes and series helps; it could so easily have been too long and ventured into the realms of inappropriate and unamusing. But it didn't.

If you work in IT, don't write this off yet. Yes, it pokes a bit of fun at the profession and escalates the opinion of "computer nerds" in the minds of the unimaginative, but it shouldn't ruin your enjoyment. Remember, comedies aren't supposed to be taken seriously!
